| PARISH COUNCIL
MEETING: |
The latest meeting of Zennor Parish Council took place on Tuesday
14th February, in the village hall. With the position of Parish
Clerk still open and unoccupied Chair to the Council, Mike Hindley,
took on the task of taking the minutes. Matters arising from
the minutes of the previous meeting included the map boards, vacant
position of the Parish Clerk and an up and coming film show.
Map Boards: Councillor Jon Brookes reported that the two
map boards destined for the village and the Gurnards Head are not
yet complete but the matter is in hand.
Parish Clerk: Unfortunately the position of Parish Clerk
is still vacant. It was requested that if anyone is toying with
the idea of taking on the role they contact any Parish Councillor
who can give details of the work involved.
Film Show: After the success of the recent film show in
the village hall, when two wildlife films by Vicky Stone and Mark
Deeble were shown, interest has been expressed in a second such
evening. On 20th May, as part of Feast Week, John Potter has offered
to show his film about Rosevale Mine.
The meeting then moved on to agenda items such as Planning, Finance,
Transport and the Parish Plan and Correspondence.
Planning: No planning applications had been received this
month. It was noted that the security lights at Higher Kerrowe Farm
had been removed and that no appeal had been lodged in respect of
the proposed TeTRA mast at Higher Kerrowe. The issue of TeTRA masts
will be discussed at the next council meeting, when it is hoped
a full complement of councillors will be present.
Finance: Mike reported that the questions raised by the
auditor have all been answered.
Transport: Jenni Pozzi, the parish Transport Liaison Officer,
reported that the Riviera Sleeper, from Penzance to London, has
been retained. First will take over the franchise from 1st April
2006. With regard to our buses the 343, which forms the core service
for Zennor, will continue, though there is a rumour there may be
changes to the summer 300 double decker (open top) bus that runs
along the coast road.
Parish Plan: Delia Webb, who works for the Community Regeneration
Team at Penwith District Council, is to be invited to come along
to the Parish Council meeting in March (14th) to talk about the
way forward with a Parish Plan. Anyone who is interested in a Parish
Plan, and has ideas on issues that should be addressed through it,
e.g. light pollution, is invited to attend this meeting.
Correspondence: A new timetable for the mobile library,
which comes into place in 27th March 2006, had been sent to the
council. This will be displayed in the two parish notice boards.
It will also be placed on the Parish Website at www.zennor.org during
the next week.
A request to enter Best Village of the Year Competition 2006
was received. Mike agreed to request further details.
Carn to Cove. This is Cornwall's performing arts touring
scheme that brings quality professional artists into rural areas.
Based on using village halls as the venues it advertising blurb
assures it will "bring wonderment and fun into the community,
to make people gasp and cry with laughter, to create a social event
to bring the village together or to make a bit of money for hall
funds!" The Village Hall Committee have already been investigating
the scheme with the intention of providing something for the younger
children in the parish. It was agreed that parishioner Margaret
Rogers would report back to the Village Hall Committee that the
Parish Council would support involvement with the scheme.
The meeting then ended with Any Other Business, under which an abandoned
car was discussed, the spending of the Recycling prize money, coaches
and the Parish Council website.
Abandoned Car: It had been noted that an apparently abandoned
car has appeared outside the Tinners Arms. By the time of the Parish
Council meeting the Mondeo had been there for three days. Councillor
John Lindfield volunteered to investigate and take the matter further
if necessary.
Recycling Prize Money: £125 had been awarded to the
parish for being the most improved recyclers in 2005. So far £11
has been spent on providing refreshments during the wildlife film
show and more will be spent to provide tea and coffee during the
Feast Week film night. There is still a considerable amount of the
prize money left. Any parishioner with suggestions on how it should
be spent is asked to contact a member of the council.
Coaches: Concern was raised by a parishioner about the
coaches along the B3306. It used to be that coach drivers had an
informal arrangement that ensured they travelled only one way along
the coast road. This seems to have ended and now the road is often
blocked by two coaches trying to pass. Jenni Pozzi agreed to contact
Cornwall County Council about the problem.
Parish Council Website: The Parish Council Website continues
to generate interest across the world. New pages are added on a
regular basis. It was agreed to continue to run the website on the
current format, with one page of information and photographs given
free to any business in Zennor. If you run a B&B or service
of any sort, please contact Jennifer Gourley, details at the top
of this column, and you too could be part of the site.
The meeting finished to 8.40pm. The next meeting of Zennor Parish
Council will take place on 14th March 2006, in the village hall.
All parishioners are invited to attend.

RECYCLING
PRIZE;
Last year Zennor was one of the most improved parishes for recycling.
Good news for the environment everywhere as rubbish in landfill sites
produces methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas. As a result
of the increase in recycling by households in Zennor the Parish Council
was sent prize money of £125.00. So far approximately £25
of this has been spent or promised, which still leaves £100.
If you have any ideas on how this should be spent, please contact
the Parish Council.
