My interest in the Landsknechts and more recently the Peasants is a long standing one which began in 1973 with research for an Osprey title called "The Landsknechts".

A year earlier I had the good fortune of working at the Hausser factory in Neustadt bei Coburg, Germany, famous for the Elastolin figures and a range of mesmerising 7cm and 4cm plastic "toy" figures. It was here that worked with and became a good friend of Josef 'Pepi' Tonn whose work has been commemorated in the book "Schaustücke".

Another major influence has been the marvellous designs of German flat figures - particularly those of Franz Karl Mohr.

I have always tried to reproduce the 'character' of the flat figure design and the animation of a Hausser/Elastolin figure. Certainly the flamboyance of the Landsknecht period lends itself to such an approach.

And then something a bit different……..In between times other projects have taken my fancy: the Pied Piper of Hamelin; King Curtis - the great R & B saxophone player; and I've always been intrigued by the depictions of elves and faeries by such artists as Dickie Doyle , Alan Lee, and Brian Froud………….so check out the specials page for occasional releases.
