NOTES

  • Photos of Bessie parked beside the barn are from the first location filming to feature Bessie. They are from the scenes in episode 3 of UNIT at the farm after the Silurian attack on Liz. The photo was taken at Sheephatch Farm, Tilford, Surrey on Friday 14th November 1969.
  • Photos of the Doctor and Liz Bessie are from a BBC Photocall. Photos taken at Thames Embankment, Richmond, London on Tuesday 13th January 1970.

RADIO TIMES SPECIAL PHOTO-SHOOT

NOTES

  • Photos of the Brigadier and Liz in Bessie were taken by the Radio Times in a special photo-shoot as part of the Dr Who 10th anniversary celebrations, circa 1973, location unknown.
ROBOT

NOTES

  • Photos of the Doctor and Sarah in Bessie were from a BBC Photocall at the BBC Engineering & Training Centre, Wood Norton, Hereford and Worcester on 2nd may 1974.
THE FIVE DOCTORS

NOTES

  • Photos of the 'Five' Doctors and companions in Bessie were from a BBC Photocall taken at Haylings House (MOD/YMCA Hostel) Denham Green, Buckinghamshire on 17th March 1983.
  • The third Doctor driving in the Death Zone rescues and meets up with Sarah-Jane Smith. This scene was filmed at Manod Quarries Gwynedd, Wales on 14th March1983.
BATTLEFIELD

NOTES

  • Photos of the Doctor and Ace beside Bessie were from a BBC Photocall taken at Hambleton Old Hall Upper Hambleton, Leicestershire on 8th May 1989.

 

 
 

EXHIBITION AND CONVENTION APPEARANCES

 

LONGLEAT

NOTES

  • Various photos of Bessie at Longleat over the years.
  • The Longleat Dr Who exhibition opened two days later than the Blackpool exhibition on 12th April 1974.
  • It originally started as a small display and grew into a more substantial exhibition.
  • The 1983 Longleat celebration is considered to be the 'Woodstock' of Doctor Who fandom. Bessie was at this event.
  • The exhibition ran regularly for nearly thirty years until it sadly closed at the end of 2003.
BLACKPOOL (ORIGINAL EXHIBITION)

NOTES

  • The original Dr Who exhibition at Blackpool opened on 10th April 1974.
  • It was located on the seafront directly opposite central pier.
  • Bessie could frequently been seen on display outside the main entrance.
  • Tom Baker visited the Blackpool (with Ian Marter and Elizabeth Sladen) when he was selected to be the celebrity to  turn on the famous illuminations. This was around 5th September 1975.
  • The original exhibition closed at the end of October 1985.

THE AMERICAN TRAVELLING EXHIBITION

NOTES

  • Various photos of Bessie around the trailer that acted as the travelling Dr Who exhibition that toured America.
  • The US trailer exhibition began its tour of American in Washington DC on 8th May 1986.
  • The schedule for the trailer was to tour America visiting two cities every week until 1988.
LLANGOLLEN

NOTES

  • Various photos of Bessie at the Llangollen Dr Who exhibition over the years.
  • The Llangollen Dr Who exhibition was opened in 1994.
  • The exhibition was an alongside the 'Dapol' factory that manufactured many Dr Who toys throughout the 1990s.
  • The exhibition closed at the end of December 2003.
BLACKPOOL (2004 EXHIBITION)

NOTES

  • A Dr Who exhibition at Blackpool opened on 9th April 2004 and ran until 2007.
  • This was located not at the old site opposite Central Pier but was on the seafront area known as the 'Golden Mile'.
  • When last seen at Blackpool Bessie looked in a very sad state of repair.
HERITAGE MOTOR CENTRE

NOTES

  • In 2010 Bessie was on display at the Heritage Motor Centre, in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
  • She was part of a temporary display of cars from film and TV which included the 1960s Batmobile and Lady Penelope's Ford version of FAB 1 from the 2007 movie Thunderbirds Are Go.
  • A display board was put up next to Bessie giving outline information about the car (this is shown above).
