Melodeon Workshops
Interesting times. In previous seasons we have run melodeon group session workshops throughout the county. Last season however, for various reasons, we saw the numbers fall to such an extent that some of the group workshops ceased to be viable costwise, with travel and venue hire. Indeed it was only the workshops at Harpford, nr Newton Poppleford in East Devon that carried on.
1-2-1
The last thing we wanted to happen was for those musicians who were still active in other areas to miss out, so Ed Rennie initiated 1-2-1 lessons, going to visit each at their home. It has proved an enormous success! The pace of the lessons is focussed on the individual and, as a bonus, they get to stay at home in the warm whilst Ed braves the winters blast.
So this 2011 - 2012 season we may offer group sessions if there is sufficient musicians in one area to make that viable. If there isn't, then Ed will be happy to offer 1-2-1 lessons instead. As ever these workshops are open to all of 12 years old upwards. The ability to read music isn't necessary, all of the melodeon workshops use a unique notation system devised by Ed Rennie, which has proved very popular over the previous workshop series.
You will need to have access to a D/G melodeon for the workshops and for practising. We do have a Devon Melodeon Hire Scheme, but they are going fast, so if you are interested, email us via the clicky thing on the Contacts page. Title your email "Melodeon hire".

Group sessions 9 x 1 hour monthly workshops from Sept to May £135 for the season in advance (£15 per session)
1-2-1 lessons £20 per hour plus mileage at 15p/mile
What do we do?
We've outlined below the various levels of workshop. The programme is the same for both the group workshops and the 1-2-1 lessons
1st Squeeze Workshops 9 x 1 hour monthly workshops, Sept - May
These are for the absolute beginner, where we'll be looking at how best to get into good habits from the outset. As time progresses, we'll gradually learn new tunes, each of which will bring in a new technique. The ability to read music is not necessary. From 12 years old and upwards.

2nd Squeeze Workshops 9 x 1 hour monthly workshops, Sept - May
These are for folks who can already play a bit, i.e. play tunes using simple bass end accompaniment. New techniques and style developed with new tunes and, as before, ability to read music not necessary. From 12 years old and upwards.

These are for folks who can already play with confidence and strong bass accompaniment.This is where the tricky stuff is at. Again new techniques and style developed with new tunes and, as before, ability to read music not necessary. From 12 years old and upwards.
