Volkswagen VR6 GL Caravelle
Auto - Modified Van / MPV
Following a high speed Suzuki GSF 1200 / drainage ditch interface, I suffered a broken neck / back / all my ribs / femur (now pinned) / collapsed lung, six weeks in a coma, and a year in hospital, and complete paralysis from the chest down, and obviously in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. The bike did not live.
So I needed a vehicle that would allow me to get about and drive with hand controls. I like performance (hence the bikes!) but needed something with a wheelchair lift in it to let me get in and out easily. After a lot of investigation, I ordered a new VW Van. This is a V6 (VR6) Petrol motor that uses a very narrow angle V block, of 2800cc capacity. Smooth and powerful motor. It is 4 speed AUTO with a 'fuzzy logic' learning gearbox, and the same digital electronics system also control the sequential fuel injection system, the ABS (anti-lock braking system) on all 4 (disk) brakes and the limited slip differential.
This van also has electronic cruise control, air conditioning, separate front and rear climate control system, pollen filters (wots that for then?) power steering tachometer and comprehensive instrumentation, power supplies in the luggage compartment and passenger compartment, extensive sound proofing and carpeting, a quality sound system, fuel computer, electrically adjustable headlights, heated screen/rear screen/mirrors, single touch electric windows, central locking, fitted alarm and Immobiliser, tinted glass + loads of other stuff that comes standard that I can't recall...
In addition I had an electric Ricon wheelchair lift fitted, which is just visible behind the sliding door in the picture, and the drivers seat is 6 way electronically adjustable, to help me get into it! Oh and a set of decent 17inch x 8j wheels and 225/40/17 vr tyres because they look cool.
The important thing is that I can now get to the pub. This is where I do my best thinking.
Great Model Aircraft / racetrack wagon....

I painted the sky blue to make the pic look more cheerful! And to remove the house from the background. If you see this van a model aircraft shows or dragstrips or racetracks, say hello!

Just to prove that the lights work...
