Here you can read our latest thoughts on helping to create a better reality. We cannot tell you how to do it, we cannot do it for you. But we can maybe shine a flashlight in a place that you weren't looking before.
Turning our Fears into Something Good
Most of us tend to view life as a half empty glass as opposed to a half full glass. Instead of actively enjoying the present moment and all that it entails, we very often find ourselves worrying about events in the future that may not even happen. Telling people to stop thinking about the future, or even the past, is all very well but why should it have any physical repercussions and how on earth do we put it into practise?
To begin to reach an answer to these questions, it is helpful to understand how our minds and bodies function. It is commonly accepted that the brain is divided into two halves - the left and right sides. These sides have quite different functions - the left side of the brain being the rational, thinking, doing part, while the right side is the intuitive, feeling, sensing part.
These two sides of the brain play a very important part in our everyday lives. Our intellect, the left side, will be absorbing information all day and helping to make rational decisions based on the information that has been presented - eg - which supermarket to shop in, which brands to buy in that supermarket, whether to pay by cash or credit. All these decisions are made by our intellectual self, based on the information that has been presented.
Our intuitive self will also help us to make decisions everyday, but these decisions will be based more upon a feeling. Examples such as what colour clothes we feel best in on a certain day, what type of lunch we feel like eating, whether or not we feel like going to the cinema in the evening. Any decision that is based upon a feeling comes mainly from the right side - although of course there may often be intellectual considerations in that decision.
It is a fundamental fact of life that if we make a decision based solely upon intellectual considerations whilst ignoring a strong 'gut' feeling that would guide us otherwise, we will invariably encounter obstacles in our way and will often end up with an unsatisfactory result. This is because the needs of the 'Higher Self', as communicated through our emotions, have not been met.
It also follows that if we purely follow a gut reaction whilst ignoring important intellectual considerations which we know must have a bearing on our actions, we will sometimes find it difficult to accept fully the action that we have taken and the result that we have achieved. This is because the needs of the intellect have not been fully met.
If we are able to provide the intellect with all the information it requires, whilst also allowing our intuition, our feelings, to speak through- then we are allowing a harmony to be created between these two sides of the brain, a harmony which will be the first stepping stone towards a more balanced, happy and satisfying life.
So what we can do to enable this process to begin?
The starting point comes in the admission to oneself that everything in life is not perfect and that something needs to change. Without that conviction, without the very firm belief that there is anything in life that needs changing, there is no point in spending any time trying to improve. After all, if everything is perfect why bother changing?
This statement needs to be considered, meditated upon, absorbed. The significance of accepting the need to change is far more weighty than it may appear. It is even more significant when it is taken in to account that this willingness to change needs to be unconditional - ie - we have to accept that anything and everything in our lives may need to change in some way, shape or form if we are to experience the true potential that life holds for us.
Accepting this notion, that nothing in our life at present is certain of remaining exactly the same, is integral to further progress and takes time to adjust to. We are all creatures of habit and we all tend to fear for what we have already got when anybody mentions change. We often find when we talk about accepting change that people immediately react by imposing conditions, saying something like "... well, I'm prepared to accept change in this area of my life, but not in this area'.
But the very nature of the Universe demands that we accept the possibility of change in anything. We have to throw ourselves into this approach completely unconditionally if we are to receive the full benefits of our work. Deepak Chopra calls it "living in the wisdom of uncertainty" (Seven Spiritual Laws of Success). We can be sure that nothing, nothing, that is in our highest Interests to have, will be taken away from us. Things which at present we cannot foresee being any better than they are, can become immeasurably improved when we give them the opportunity of change. In short, the good things in our lives can become much better, the bad things can disappear. It may not happen overnight, but if we accept the need to change, at least it can happen.
This part of the process can be likened to driving in a car. When we decide we wish to accept the possibility of change in our lives, we are accepting that our car has been going in the wrong direction and we need to hit the brakes. Once we have started to brake, we can relax in the knowledge that it is inevitable that the car will eventually stop (provided we don't stop breaking). At this point our previous journey (ie our previous approach to life) has now been halted and we can head off in a new direction. We may need to change direction many times, we must never judge this as being wrong. Each journey is a vital part in bringing us nearer each time to our destination -all the time we are getting more in harmony with our true wants and desires.
People often say to us that they would feel bad pursuing their own wants and desires. And we say to people, well tell us, what is so bad about your own wants? And when people stop, and think, they always find out that in fact what they want is nothing dreadful, nothing dangerous, nothing anti-social. Quite often they find out that they don't even know what they really want. This is the tragedy. And it is this that brings unhappiness to you and those around you. Your dreams, your wants and desires are destinations on your journey.
So, how do we find those destinations, or how do we hit those brakes on a car that is going in the wrong direction?
We can guide you, but we cannot do it for you. We can show you where the pedal is, but you need to hit it. It is all a question of choice. No high IQ, no money, no physical dexterity - just the willingness to accept change unconditionally.
An understanding of how things manifest is an important start. In this universe like attracts like. It is a universal law and universal laws are worth working with rather than against. This extract is taken from our book "The Truth about Illness, Unhappiness & Stress?".
"This law of attraction will inevitably manifest anything that we really put great emotion into - unfortunately this goes for negative things as well as positive things.
It is through this process that we are able to create dis-ease out of a single thought. It is through this process that we are able to create great happiness out of what was also once a single thought. The key to using our emotions to attract the right things instead of the wrong things comes down to the correct use of our thought process.
This process is not as complicated as we may consider it to be. What most of us tend to do when we are thinking about something that we really want - such as perfect health, or a fulfilling relationship, or a lovely house - is put our attention on the fear of not getting those things.
Instead of repeatedly saying to ourselves "I want perfect health", or "I want enough money to buy...", we tend to slide into "I'm scared of not getting better", or "what if I don't get enough money". By doing this, our greatest emotion is fear; fear of not getting better or not having enough money. This emotion is so strong that it attracts like towards itself - in this case continuing ill-health or poverty.
Once we get into the "fear of not" state of mind, we tend to attract even more of those things to us that we do not want. How many of us for instance have got into debt only to find even more bills and charges appearing as if from nowhere?
However low or high our morale, very few of us consciously put the right accent on our thought process. Just by shifting the emphasis on to what we want and away from what we fear not getting, we will start to reap the rewards as we work in conjunction with the most powerful Universal Law of all.
If we can just stop worrying about not getting better, better health will start to come. As we continue to focus only on having and wanting to have perfect health, so our health will start to improve and as long as we continue in this frame of mind we will continue to attract improved health. Whenever we are knocked back by dis-ease we need only remind ourselves of this Universal Law "Like Attracts Like" to know where we must put our thoughts, our emotions.' (taken from The Truth about Illness, Unhappiness & Stress?).
So how to stop putting out messages of fear? The first thing to do is to have great clarity about your fears. Know your enemy well, for your greatest enemy is your greatest friend. List your fears.. Take a long time doing this for it is very important and will help you make a blue-print from which you can ultimately start shaping your perfect life. Start with the most obvious fears and then gradually begin to add to that list. Write down everything and be aware of the feelings that come up for you as you write them down. Very often, this alone allows us to see that our fears are not nearly as frightening as we first imagined them to be. It is only when they are left to fester unattended to that they appear to become some uncontrollable monster.
You now have in front of you the half empty glass. Your list of fears you will find, hold clues as to how you presently approach many things in life in a negative, fearful way. For example: a fear of money/poverty could result in you saying 'I ought not buy that, I might need the money for something else'; a fear of being a bad person 'Even though I'm tired and need to rest, I should go to dinner with them because they might think I don't like them'. These fears will inevitably result in the exact experience your are trying to avoid being brought closer to you as it is a rule of the universe that like attracts like.
Our aim here is to help you to list your fears, and then help you to turn them into the half full glass as opposed to the half empty one. This we do very simply. You will find everything that we suggest to you will be simple because that is the nature of life - simplicity. Nothing needs to be complicated - it is only our intellect that demands complication. The next stage therefore is to take your first fear and turn it into something that you want. Examples:-
| Fear | Want | |
|---|---|---|
| I fear being overweight | I want to be happy with my weight | |
| I fear not having enough money | I want enough money to ... (list each thing that you want the money for) | |
| I fear suffering with my illness | I want to be in control of my suffering | |
We once worked with a man who was an alcoholic who had attempted suicide on two occasions. He could think of no reason to live at all. The first thing we asked him to do was to list all his fears and, although he found this quite difficult to start with, with some encouragement he soon had a list of 15 fears. These fears included drinking himself into oblivion and losing the respect of his family. We then showed him how to turn these fears into wants. "I fear losing the respect of my family" turned into "I want to earn my family's respect"; "fear of drinking into oblivion" became "I want to be in control of my desire for alcohol". Before long, someone who a few minutes previously had no reason to live, suddenly had 15 powerful reasons for living. And yet nothing in his physical life had changed. It was just a change of perspective from the half empty glass to the half full glass.
After a few days, when you are certain that all your fears have surfaced (you can of course add to them at any time in the future as things come up) - and after you have turned them into wants, you can throw away your list of fears. The objective of this exercise being to recognise the fears, turn them into positive wants - and then focus on the wants in as detailed and emotional a way as possible. Once you start thinking about the things that you really want in a detailed and exciting way, you will be starting to create that reality. The more detail we give ourselves and the Universe, the more chance we have of attracting that very thing to us.
It is very important to bear in mind the following when doing your list of wants:
At this stage, these are the most important points that you need to know. Once you have created your wants list, continue to add to it, change it, detail it more, until you have a list that gives you a feeling of great joy and anticipation. This list may never be finalised. Every enhancement achieved brings a new perspective from which to grow, so don't feel guilty if each success fails to satisfy completely.
No-one can do this work for you - only you know what truly gives you joy. Once you have created this list, life will start to have greater clarity. Work with this list regularly - refer to it as often as possible so that it becomes a very focused part of your daily awareness. Regular practise is very important. You will soon begin to realise how previously you went through life with a vague idea of what you wanted but with no real knowledge. You now have a knowing. A greater understanding of what you are really like.
Recognise what makes you feel good before you actively do anything. It is not necessary to do anything physically towards making this list come true other than getting to know it so well that you know every detail on it. Opportunities will come along and you will know to take them. Things will start to happen that will make you realise that you are now beginning to work in harmony with the universe and that as a result the universe is bringing its magic to you. Just detail those fears, turn them into wants and enjoy what you start attracting. You will one day find you are no longer controlled by fear. It is the greatest magic of all.
The next stage of this exercise will be how to bring these wants into the present moment...
