Description:
The passenger numbers kept rising and rising and of particular concern was the expense at having to double-head trains on the Port Erin line, in addition to providing a rear 'banker' engine in order for heavy trains to climb out of Douglas and reach Port Soderick station.  A more powerful engine still was required to handle these heavy peak holiday season trains unassisted and Beyer Peacock supplied a much larger version of the "Manx Peacock".

Gone were the old Victorian style wrap over cab sheet and bell-mouthed domes with Salter safety valves.  In came a big boiler and smokebox, bigger cylinders and thicker main frames, traditional square cab, closed dome, Ross 'pop' safety valves and a mechanical lubricator.  That said, MANNIN's origins were still clear to see and Beyer Peacock had perpetuated a design from the 1860's right through to 1926.
