Description:

The opening of the Port Erin line necessitated the purchase of two further locomotives.  In view of the heavier gradients and length in comparison with the Peel line, the basic Manx Peacock design was altered so as to provide larger capacity water tanks and coal bunker.  Experience with the initial batch of three locomotives led to minor design modifications, including rectangular spectacle plates in the front & rear cab sheets, the water injector overflow pipes being carried over and down the sides of the water tanks to a point just below footplate level (hence the peculiar letter spacing on the nameplates for LOCH and MONA) and the relocation of tool boxes to a position inside the cab on top of the rear section of the side tanks.  PEVERIL's nameplate was located towards the front of the side tanks rather than centrally, and slight handrail variations were introduced.
