Design Changes - 1888
| No.14 THORNHILL | Works No. 2028 | Built 1888 |
| No.7 TYNWALD | Works No. 2038 | Built 1888 |
Description:
Increased traffic led to the IOMR ordering their seventh
locomotive at the same time as the MNR were ordering their third
- hence the similarity of these two engines with Works
No.'s only ten different. Design improvements now
incorporated into the specifications as a result of experience
included separate front & rear sanding gear, still of a
gravity feed nature, operated from the cab by rods for the front
and handles at the rear. The most suitable location of the
front sand boxes was where the water feed clack valves were
located on previously delivered engines.
As a result, the water feed valves were moved to a more forward
location on the boiler and in doing so, displaced the maker's
plates from the boiler to the rear portion of the side tanks.
Other specification changes included cylinder lubricators located
on the front cylinder covers for the IOMR engine and on the
running board above the cylinder for the MNR version. A
further design change in the rear cab handrail took place.
