This
is that time of year when we borders can have a lot of fun, and although
I've only seen two of these periods I'll tell you what it means to me.

There
are obviously very good reasons for the 'boss' being at home for such
a long time but we have yet to find out why.
Everything in the house
looks different with lots of shiny objects draped everywhere and a 'tree'
placed in the corner. The flowers on this tree are the strangest we've
ever seen - red, yellow, green and blue, and all flashing every few
seconds. 'She' never pours water round the bottom of it like she does
with all the other green plants scattered around the place, and quite
magically just before we go to bed at night the flowers stop flashing
- very odd.
There is one day during
this period that is worth recollection. Quite early in the morning there
is increased activity in the kitchen with the smells of cooking positively
driving sister and me wild. Then things quieten down a little and 'they'
go to the living room and sit down with a glass of 'strong stuff'. Now
they never sit down at that time any other day of the year so we know
something is different.
Next comes the frantic
ritual of tearing things apart!
From a large bag they
take it in turns to give Bonnie and me lovely little parcels wrapped
in coloured paper which make a great sound as we rustle and tear it
apart.
If only they knew that
the paper is the best bit and the contents, though often quite nice,
we will soon either eat or destroy. Still, if they want to spend all
that money on us, who are we to argue?
