Off the A75 approximately 10 miles passed Castle Douglas to Stranraer road.

MacLellan's Castle, seen right, was comleted in 1582 by Sir Thomas MacLellan.
This town is approx. 5 miles from where I stay (Tarff), and 10 miles from Castle Douglas (on the A75) and hosts a number of attractions :-
The Harbour Cottage Gallery, Hornel Art Gallery, Tolbooth Art Centre and the Stewarty Museum.
kirkcudbright was made a royal
borough in 1455, suffered damage in 1507 from a raid by Manxmen
led by the Earl of Derby and resisted an English attack in 1547.
A new Tolbooth was built in 1629 and subsequently added to, it housed, briefly, Capt. John Paul (later John Paul Jones - the American naval hero).
There are other dates and places of interest but I will mention just one more and that is the death of Billy Marshall in 1792.
His claim to fame ?, well, he was 120 years old.
He is buried in kirkcudbright Churchyard.
Above is an late evening view of Kirkcudbright Bay .
The Information centre is adjacent to the castle, car park in front (toilets are next door), and right behind it is the harbour.
