OUR NEW CONDUCTOR FROM JANUARY 1st 2005
Matthew graduated from the University of Wales Cardiff
in July 2003 with a Bachelor of Music honors in music. He then continued
his studies with a Masters of Composition and conducting, and is currently
in his final year.
Matthew is an experienced conductor in the South Wales
valleys, having been musical director of the Ebbw Vale Musical Youth Society
for six years, Tredegar Operatic society for three, and conductor of the
Merthyr Italian Choir for Two. He was also the assistant chorus master
at Cardiff university of the 260 voice music department choir, and is currently
Musical Director of the Blaenau Gwent Choral.
A grade 8 pianist, Matthew has a keen interest in music
research of the 19th century, and also composition. A keen composer, Matthew
has written and conducted works in several genres, including 3 musicals,
2 piano concerto's 3 orchestral overtures and more recently music for male
voice choir and contemporary music ensemble.
Helen
Davies
Accompanist to Ebbw Vale Male Choir
Helen, exhibited a musical talent very early on and was
encouraged to embark on
a musical career, Whilst in school Helen performed as
a pianist , vocalist and also as accompanist with
the School Choir.
She then studied vocal training with Ruth Packer at the
College of Music and Drama Cardiff.
Helen has been involved in the world of music from a
very early age starting as a percussionist
alongside her elder brother,playing initially with the
Gwent Youth Brass Band, Tredegar
Junior Band and subsequently progressing to become a
member of the highly successful
Championship Tredegar Town Band spanning a period of
some 20 years.
Helen's ability and obvious potential has led her to
the much more demanding
roles of accompanist to several Amateur Operatic Societias,
Ladies Choirs and
leading Male Voice Choirs. She has accompanied many fine
semi and professional
artists from which she has earned great praise, She has
also appeared as a guest
accompanist with many choirs both in the United Kingdom
and Abroad.

Silver Medalist (Hon)
A life member of the Ebbw Vale and District Operatic
Society, june has held the position of both
Musical Director and Accompanist, conducting orchestral
performances for thirty years, also having
the privilege of assisting other operatic societies,
choirs and artistes' within the borough and accompanying
singers in music examinations.
An accomplished organist, June is Director of Music at
her home church, and is an active member
and teacher at the Sunday school. June has held the position
of both organist and conductor on numerous
occasions at the Easter singing festival, and other special
Church services. June is also the winner
of several Hymn tune competitions.
June is now our Assistant pianist
