An illustration of the castle pre - 1904

The castle in 1953

Vanbrugh Castle is situated at the top of Maze Hill in Greenwich, London. It re-opened in 1947 (ref) as a boarding school for the sons of Royal Air Force personnel killed in the second world war, and was administered by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

About 40 boys boarded when the school re-opened and the number rose to 52, or thereabouts, in the fifties then to 60 in the seventies.

It closed as a RAFBF school in 1975.
