Somewhere for Thomas and Percy to run..
As much as Fred enjoys a bit of shunting about on Dad's
shelf layouts.. it's good to let them run sometimes and Dad made a promise to
build a train track for Thomas and Percy. (Seemed like a good idea to let
Daddy's few OO trains have some exercise too!) A few basic rules were laid
down.. the controller wanted to sit in the middle and there had to be a station
and a bridge. Actually, there was also supposed to be a school, a river, a major
A road...but there is only so much you can fit into 4'6" x 3'6".
As ever, things have been done fairly cheaply and simply. There are only two points, one isolated section in the station siding, and a few 2nd radius setrack curves were already in store. The Metcalfe card platform kit , Skaledale platform building, Hornby footbridge and £1 swapmeet goods shed were also waiting to be used. A few bags of flocking material and a couple of bits from swapmeets like crossing gates, cows for the fields only added up to a few pounds.

The basic MDF on 2x1 timber frame sits on two B&Q sawhorse trestles. The viaduct was built up out of foamcore around a strong MDF bridge, with 1:24 brick paper used to decorate. Control is via a Hornby Thomas set radio control..(from ebay).
As you can see - no sign of Thomas or Percy here! Fred concentrating hard on piloting the Bachmann LMS crab around the circuit whilst the heavily weathered and smoking Airfix 4F waits in the siding.
