plankerton

If you're new to this hobby and wondering where might be a good place to start.. you can't go far wrong with building a small layout based on the Inglenook Sidings. See here for some more information on what the concept is for this engrossing shunting 'puzzle'.All you need is a small loco, eight assorted wagons and a bit of track with two turnouts (points). You can 'play' with less than eight wagons too. I got everything second hand from swapmeets..the loco was under £20 and the wagons about £2-£4 each. The points were under a fiver each and the track was cheap too. I used a trusty old H&M controller from my childhood trainset.

Plankerton was built using some old plywood I had spare and weighed a ton! It was about 45" long and around 10" wide.. quite portable and easy to store if it hadn't weighed so much!

I have since dismantled this layout but I will be most likely building an 'Inglenook' again as it's a good way to try out scenic applications or coupling methods.
