Ashbrittle Arts - Bringing
the visual and performing arts to our community.
Ashbrittle Arts is a group of Ashbrittle (and other) residents
who promote the arts, locally, through sponsoring professional
performances, encouraging amateur activities and supporting community
involvement in the arts. In the last decade we have run several
highly successful projects and there was the music festival too.
Some projects are one-offs others are regular events.
Regular events include:
The Ashbrittle Book Group - Every few weeks
we meet to discuss a book chosen at the last meeting. The choices
vary enormously, from works by Trollope to works by local author
Tim Bragg. Contact Delia Harling on 01823 672203 for more details.
The Ashbrittle Film Club - Thanks to Charles
and Susan we have enjoyed regular screenings of 35mm film classics
from the 30s to the noughties. Contact Charles Doble on 01823
672365 for more details.
Take Art performances - In the village hall
and in the church we've held two or three events a year with artists
from all over the world. Contact Avril Silk on 01823 672131 for
more details.
The Video Club - A whole stack of video titles
are available to hire. Contact Lena Massy for more details.
Arts & Crafts Workshops - Local people run
creative workshops for local people to enjoy. Contact Avril Silk
on 01823 672131 for more details.
Large-scale events have included:
The Yew Tree Project - When you have a 3,800
year old tree in your village it's worth making a fuss. That's
just what we did in 1999. Contact Avril Silk on 01823 672131 for
more details.
The Millenium Book - To comemorate the passing
of the twentieth century we commissioned a book of thoughts about
Ashbrittle. It quickly grew from a small idea to 170 pages of
fascinating words and pictures. Contact Ted Franklin on 01823
672447 for more details.
The Sacred Land Project - Four sites were chosen
from around the country. Ashbrittle was one of them. The others
are: Our Lady of the Crag - the Marian shrine at Knaresborough,
a Buddhist Garden of Contemplation in London and the Vrindavan
Hindu-inspired Garden in Leicester. Ashbrittle Arts worked with
composer William Lovelady to create music for Ashbrittle and with
sculptor Evie Body to create Sacred Site marker posts. Contact
Avril Silk on 01823 672131 for more details or see: http://www.arcworld.org/projects.asp?projectID=78
The Ashbrittle Music Festival - A weekend of
live music with something for everyone - it nearly was!
The Trafalgar Day Celebration - More jollity
with the planting of an oak grove - one tree for every ship in
Nelson's fleet. Local children each chose a tree to sponsor.
Ashbrittle Arts always welcome new members from the local community.
