The internet is the most exciting, flexible, cost-effective way to sell stuff. But most people go about it in completely the wrong way!
Can you imagine heading to your local Chemist to buy a box of aspirin then, as you're about to go in, a troop of dancing polar bears stop you at the door and proceed to sing at you for five minutes, waving their coloured hankies in the air? That's what I feel like when I visit so many websites. I'm assailed by mindless, pointless graphics and animations that just get in the way and take hours to download. They're often there simply because the site owner has been persuaded by a web-designer that the latest dancing widget is all the rage and his site will be dull without it. They look great on the designer's super high-power graphics PC but to the average customer seeking to purchase, or simply trying to get some information from you, they're just a complete pain in the transaction.
A long while ago I was taught to KISS: "Keep it simple, stupid". Once you've optimised your search engine performance (so your customers can find you in the first place!), the tricks and techniques to get your customers responding online are IDENTICAL, yes identical, to the ones you'd use in other media. If you want your website to be as powerful as it can be, I'll help you concentrate on WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY, not how many colours you want to say it in. (Even better, concentrate on what your customers want to HEAR.)
Remember, counting the hits on your site is just vanity. Sales are the only thing worth counting!
