Astronomy

The Astronomy Group has been meeting on the Inner Mezzanine Learning Zone Room, at the Gateway, on alternate Friday afternoons (calendar even weeks).
This period has been problematic as to live Faulkes Telescope viewing due to technical problems and availability. At last, at the end of May we managed to book on to the Australian Telescope. It was quite exciting controlling a large telescope at the other side of the earth. We obtained a good photograph of NGC5371 a large spiral Galaxy .
All the meetings have been interesting due to the amount of information on the internet. One or two near earth Asteroids have been viewed, thank goodness they were far enough away so as not to be a problem on our planet! Much information has been viewed and discussed concerning the recent Mars landing .
Although one or two of the members have taken up other commitments, most meetings have six to eight members, enough to have an interesting discussion .
