The computer group meets 3 times a week at the Gateway Centre
We cover Word processing, Excel, Data base, Power Point, The Internet, Emailing and
digital photography in all groups. Members are welcome to bring along their own
laptops, but we do have the use of PC's at the Centre.Mondays 2pm till 4pm - This Group is for beginners Tuesdays 2pm till 4 pm - This group is for advanced users Wednesdays 2.30 pm till 4.30pm - This group is for beginners. Thanks once again to the Gateway centre staff for their help and support. This past academic year has been great although quite challenging due to the number of members wanting to join the group. Many thanks to Kath, Tony, Trevor and Chris and the 2 volunteer mentors from the Works and Pension's office in Warrington, and all the Group Deputies; without you last year would not have been possible. Next year the advanced computer users group will be led by Trevor Mawson. The Beginners' groups also have an excellent team of tutors. HopefuIly this next year I will be able once in a while to have a Monday, Tuesday or possibly Wednesday off! Microsoft is to release the latest system Windows 7 around Xmas. It's said to be an improvement on Vista; my advice is wait and see, once the new system is released there are bound to be so called bargains to be had so retailers can clear their shelves. Vista was not a success! New systems will have Windows 7 pre-installed. I would only buy a new system if it is really necessary. The new range of Netbooks are ideal if you use the Net, email and do basic letter writing etc. - very portable! Group Leader: John D [Ed.] Some computer group members may be interested in the math and science software mentioned on the software page |
