If you are interested in gardens, like visiting other peoples gardens and our national
treasures and enjoy the company of like minded people then this is the group for you. We
are quite a large group and usually meet on the last Friday of the rnonth at 1.30 p.m. The
cost varies depending on the garden visited. Most of the time we travel in our own cars
and car share where possible except when we travel a distance and then we hire a coach.
We do have one or two "hands on" workshops and, during the winter months, have talks by
experts on some aspect of gardening. Here are one or two of the things we have done so
far this year.BODNANT GARDEN AND CRUG FARM In April we visited the National Trust Garden in North Wales. It was a lovely warm spring day and the Magnolias had to be the star of the show. The scent was heavenly. We enjoyed a guided tour by volunteers who explained how Bodnant had developed over the years and about the family who live in the house. After lunch we had a visit to Crug Farm, the home of Bleddyn and Sue Wynn-Jones who are plant hunters and had been featured on Gardener's World. Bleddyn gave us a talk and slide show of his plant hunting in Vietnam. We then had a walk round their nursery to see the wonderful plants that had been brought home from all over the world. I am sure we shall be visiting Bodnant again at a different time of year. NORTON PRIORY A visit this time to one of our more local hidden treasures. It was a very hot day which probably cut short our tour of the garden somewhat. Roses were scrambling everywhere; the vegetables were wilting and so were we. Tracey gave us two extremely enjoyable tours and intimated that we were her first customers for the tours. We certainly wouldn't have guessed. The day was enhanced by the extra tour of the priory itself in the morning for just an extra 50p. What a bargain. This at least was in shade for most of the time. A very reasonable sandwich lunch was provided between the tours which gave us time to chat with other members. A most enjoyable, if somewhat sticky day. I hope you enjoyed this snapshot of our group visits. Please contact me if you are interested in joining the group. Group Leader: Sheila
