LATIN

|Home| |Timetable|

In September 2008 Trevor Davies announced that he would like to start a Latin Group if enough people were interested. Well they were, and following a little hiccup when Trevor was unfortunately taken ill, a dozen or so brave souls turned up for the first meeting in November.
The majority of us had taken the subject at school many moons ago and all remembered the rote learning and classical content of our education, but not much else. This was not to be 'amo, amas, amat'. The modern approach to teaching the language is very different. 'We have all had to try and forget the remnants that have returned to our brains and approach this in 21st century form.
It is a credit to Trevor's instruction that no one has dropped out and we all turn up for each session enthusiastically. We have progressed through a good portion of the first text book and have lively discussions on word meanings. I think we now know a lot more about life in Pompeii before Vesuvius erupted than we ever did about battles in Rome!
We meet on 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, at 10.30 am in Roorn 1b at Bold St., recommencing 17th September. At our last meeting in June we agreed to try to keep our efforts alive during the Summer and to reconvene in September to continue where we left off. We give many thanks to Trevor for his hard work and enthusiasm in trying to instil a little culture into an unruly bunch!
