I joined the U3A and the Photography group last October after visiting the monthly first Wednesday General Meeting and listening to "A Witty Tale" - a talk by the popular, amusing Fr. Michael Burgess.
We meet in Bold Street each fortnight and I have been made welcome by the 20 plus members. There is a wide range of expertise and members have camera equipment from basic compacts to SLRs & tripods. We have enjoyed some instructional sessions on Photoshop from John and Tommy and many contributory talks on individual areas of special interest by a wide variety of others - mounting prints, making cards, camcorder photography, and compositional techniques to mention a few. The informal competitions are enjoyable as are the visits to photograph particular locations, such as Quarry Bank Mill at Styal.
Leader Graham plans to offer more basic help with Photoshop techniques to members - new and old - next year, along with more interactive sessions on evaluating each other's work. Report by Trevor Mawson

The coming year starting in September there will be more emphasis on training members in the use of digital techniques and camera techniques. Again thanks are extended to those who worked for the group in the last twelve months and for the experience we have all shared in our competitions and outings. For up to the minute information about the coming sessions please come to a general meeting and pick up a programme.
My personal thanks to Dorothy Wolstencroft for her work as secretary of the group. Also to those who have tutored sessions through the year. Thanks also to the teamakers and outing organizers for all that they have done. I also appreciate the support and encouragement that the group has given to me as coordinator.
