The Poetry Group is a small friendly group where newcomers can expect a warm
welcome. We meet on altemate Thursdays (even weeks in year) in Room 2a in Bold
Street. At each session we have a different theme or subject, and over the last few
months we have read and discussed poems written by people in many diferent styles
and compositions. Some of the themes explored were Seasons, Women, Travel, Islands,
Animals and the poets whose work we have considered were as varied as John Keats
and Pam Ayers. To end our season, we joined with the Literature Group and enjoyed Jacky Starkey enlightening us about "Metaphysical Poetry". Thanks to John and other members of that group for giving us the chance to listen to Jackie taking a lot of the mystique out of that genre - and thanks to Jackie for so doing! If you have ever liked poetry at all, why not come along and visit us - listen, enjoy and perhaps tell us what your poetic choice is. In a year of economic upheaval, credit crunches. unemployment etc. when daily, we're faced with bad news of many kinds, perhaps you will find our group an oasis of sanity where we can be reminded of the values and morals of all of mankind, past and present, and focus on more pleasant times and events from our own experience - and remember that life can give us laughter lines as well as sadness!
