People take up Tai Chi for many reasons. After deciding in my 20's I was unfIt I joined the League of Health and Beauty, followed by Badminton, Squash and now Tennis. (Even in Winter my friends and I look like Mitchelin men as we play outside.) Yesterday a brass band appeared on the bandstand. As I played tennis with my nephew and his children distracting but really funny - couldn't help but jig along to the music. Age taking its toll on my back, I started looking for a new interest which could possibly keep my back in working order and discovered Tai Chi. My knowledge is limited as there is so much to learn and it can be taken to much higher plains than I have managed. However, it helps to keep me supple, makes me concentrate, helps with balance and, hopefully, keeps me a lot healthier than I otherwise would be. The group is exceedIngly sociable and welcoming. We meet in the Recrecreation Room, Room 3, of the Methodist chapel in Bold Street on Fridays, odd weeks of the Year, 10.15a.m.
