Lectures are at 8:00pm on Tuesdays in the Earth Science Department, Parks Road, Oxford except for the Bernard Tucker Memorial Lecture (Michaelmas Term) which will be held this year in the Exeter Hall in Kidlington at 7.45 pm. His lecture will focus on both the natural history of the Galapagos, and on how this natural history is important for understanding evolution in action. |
1689th meeting Monday 2nd November 7.45 pm Bernard Tucker Memorial Lecture Case Studies with Predatory Birds Dr Mick Marquiss Centre for Ecology & Hydrology This lecture will take place at the Exeter Hall, Kidlington at 7.45 pm. Mick Marquiss is a population ecologist interested in phenology and population fluctuations, in particular mismatches between phenology and resources. This meeting is held jointly with the Oxford Ornitholgoical Society (www.oos.org.uk). |

1690th meeting Tuesday 17th November Under the Weather: the impacts of climate change on badgers and other woodland mammals Dr Chris Newman WildCRU/University of Oxford Chris Newman has worked on mammal populations in Wytham Woods, as a senior research associate with the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit for almost 20 years. He will share his experience of how populations are impacted by climate change. |
1691st meeting Tuesday 1st December The Use of Plants in Forensic Science Dr Michael Keith-Lucas University of Reading Michael Keith-Lucas, chairman of the Mid-Berkshire region of BBOWT, is an ecologist with a particular interest in vegetation history. His talk will look at the use of botanical evidence and give examples of its use in fraud, theft, firearms and murder cases. |
