Salsa Diversion Dance Company History
Fritha started Salsa Diversion Dance Company as an experiment to find out
whether her experience of choreographing Contemporary dance could be
applied to Salsa dance. She had never attempted to choreograph in this
genre before, so was not sure what the results would be! She gathered
together a group of dancers from her local salsa club and the results
were so good that costumes were made specially and public performances
soon followed. Responses to the cabarets and events have been extremely
positive so Fritha is keen to develop the company further and has set
out a series of aims.
Salsa Diversion Dance Company Aims
To
make salsa dance accessible and enjoyable for all.
To
provide cabaret performances with high quality choreography.
To
support and encourage charity events by offering reduced charges.
To
nurture and develop company members as performers and teachers.
To
educate audiences and event participants so that they develop their
appreciation of salsa dance, music and choreography.
We
are based in South East England and aim to positively represent
Salsa in the UK. We hope to inspire those with a similar background to
ourselves to enjoy dancing Salsa. We also hope to encourage people from
our region to value their local Salsa scene and be proud of it’s most
talented dancers and teachers. Salsa in the South East has embraced a
variety of influences from around the world and we hope to further the
understanding of these influences and the engagement with them as a
new, and truly English, interpretation is forged.
