The South Cambridgeshire Fungus Recording Group

2012

The South Cambs Fungus Group grew out of the Melbourn Mushroom Club, formed in 1995 by a group of people who attended an evening class, 'Fascinating Fungi' at Melbourn Village College. We have been meeting regularly since then. Fungi can be found all through the year, and we regularly foray on Boxing Day! But April is the real start of the season, when we look for spring fungi such as morels and other Cup Fungi (Ascomycetes). Autumn is the main season  for the larger Basidiomycete fungi (Mushrooms and Toadstools), but their occurrence is unpredictable in the dry climate of East Anglia, so we keep our fingers crossed for downpours to moisten the parched soil. New members are always welcome, however much or little you know, and whether your interest is in natural history generally, conservation, recording, photography, or just a morning out in good company and pleasant surroundings.
