Menu
Wconnect displays its menu when you right-click on the tray icon or when you press the menu's quick-key combination (ctrl+shift+A).
Much of the menu is adaptive so its tough to document. Hopefully it's more obvious to use:
The top item on the menu always controls your internet connection. If it's greyed out then its not possible to connect. That could be because you're not logged-in to the server or because the server prohibits you connecting; the tray icon, and its tooltip, provide a hint as to why this is.
When an internet-connection is in progress the top menu item lets you toggle your request and join the existing connection () or leave it ().
While logged-in to the server the 'Connect to.../Disconnect From...' menu-option is the one which is perfomred on double-clicks, and is consequentially displayed in bold.
If the link is fully down (
)
and your server knows about multiple providers
then the option opens onto a sub-menu of
providers: clicking on one of these starts the
connection to that ISP. (There's no submenu's when the
server reports just one provider.)
The Providers are displayed "unsorted" in the order connectd names them, but connectd actually sorts providers in order of priority.
A provider is greyed-out when the server's indicated it cannot be opened. This could be because of restrictions in the Connection Control List, or because opening it would exceed a quota.
When 'Try each in turn.' is enabled (from the Menu page of wconnect's Properties), a "spoof" provider called 'Try each in turn.' appears below all other providers. Clicking this causes wconnect to try and connect to each provider listed--stopping as soon as a connection is established.
The Poll the net is optional. It can be enabled
from the properties dialog, and appears under the
connect option. It's greyed out except when the
connection is fully closed (
).
Like the 'Connect to...' option, it opens onto a
submenu in a multiprovider system; chosing one
causes wconnect to dial the provider and then
hangup straightaway. In a well configured system
this will cause mail to be sent and picked up, newsgroups
to be read etc..
The poll the net option doesn't support a Try each in turn. item.
The Logon/Logoff Server item is "Look for connectd", "Stop Looking for connectd" and "Logoff connectd" is another optional item. It appears after the connection options, and is separated by a divider from those above and below it.
The Login section deals with the subtleties of the login process. "Logoff connectd" logs you off the server, "Stop Looking for connectd" stops an in-progress login, and "Look for connectd" starts a new one.

The Logon/Logoff item is forced onto the menu when AutoLogins are turned off. Wconnect also turns it on if you cancel a login attempt; it's not then hidden automatically.

Following the Login/Logoff item are options to open wconnect's windows. When a window is already displayed clicking on it's menu-item brings it to the foreground (unminimizing it, if necessary).
The Status & Clients window is greyed out when not logged-into the server; it can also be accessed via left-clicking on wconnect's tray icon.
Its possible to remove options for the Status & Clients and Debug-Console from wconnect's properties. The former is accessible in other ways and the latter is only needed for advanced users.
From the config file its also possible to hide
the properties item (change the
The final item is to exit wconnect. If you are connected to the internet wconnect will warn if exiting would leave your connection open. The same thing happens when you shut down the system.
If a shutdown/rebooted/logoff happens while wconnect is running, then wconnect will startup next time you boot/login. (If this is the behaviour you want then you can disable the 'Exit' menu-item from wconnect's properties.)
Conversly if wconnect is exited before windows exits then wconnect will not will not be running the next time you start windows.

Wconnect keeps the menu uptodate even if its left open. The only way this can be done is to close the menu and reopen, which is why it sometimes flickers. Sorry.
Wconnect will pop-up its main menu when you press its quick-key combination; the arrow keys, underlined letters, and enter key fly it from the keyboard.
The following caveats apply when setting the menu quick-key:
Entering a combination already in use will start that application; there's no (easy) way to prevent this or warn you.
Wconnect insists the key combination includes at least two of the modifiers: control, alt and shift. When less than two of these modifiers are pressed, wconnect uses control+alt.
Once wconnect is set to use a combination, no other application can use this combination; so when wconnect's quick key is set to ctrl+shift+S Photoshop won't be able to use it for Save+As.
You should change this option to something that's free and you remember.
When checked these options appear on the main menu. From the config file its possible to create your own menu options; and disable some not listed here.
