Session
The session page of wconnect's properties contains settings concerned with logging-in to or logging-out of the server.
config-file: user 'name'
command-line: /u name
If wconnect is logged-in then this box displays the username used. When wconnect is not logged-in then this is the name it will try and use--unless 'Prompt for username' is checked.
The default is whatever you typed into the windows login box. If you didn't log in to windows, and no value is saved in the config file or was provided by the command-line, then wconnect prompts.
Changing the username while attached to the server causes wconnect to logoff and login with the new username.
This button tries to change your passwords. If this isn't enabled it's because you're not logged in or connectd cant't change your password.
Check this box and wconnect always brings up the login box, irregardless of whether you need a password or not.
I have a mixture of users with and without passwords, and this checkbox proves handy for me.
Connectd can be setup to close your internet connection when wconnect exits or logouts.
The Desired box shows the value wconnect requested on your behalf. The Actual shows what the server said it was going to do. This may be what you asked for, or it maybe your administrator has decreed a different setting.
The Desired setting has three values, essentially 'yes', 'no' and 'whatever'.
'Server supplied default' means wconnect doesn't set this value one way or another: you get whatever the server decides.
'Never' means if wconnect exits or logs-out then the connection is left open. This is the right choice on a Windows 9X machine especially if your ISP is so busy that it takes 20 minutes to dial-in: should your machine crash then the connection remains up while you reboot.
When this value is selected wconnect, and you exit wconnect with an open connection, then wconnect prompts for confirmation before exiting.
'Only if last client' means the server closes your connection when wconnect exits. (If you're logged-in to connectd via two machines then its when the last copy of wconnect exits that your connection is hung up, which is the 'last client' bit.)
Wconnect tries to change this only when you Apply the changes. The properties have to be reopened to see if the change has taken effect. (Something for the to-do list I feel.)
Why change? Suppose you have a file downloader which will turn off your machine when its finished the download. Select the 'Only if last client' option, and when the downloader turns off your machine, the server will cut your connection. It should be possible to go to the pub safe in the knowledge the connection will be shut when the download is finished.
