Minutes of Previous Meeting:

These were accepted by all present.

Matters Arising:

The secretary discussed an email from the representative of Central Scotland Police who attended the last drop in evening. This included a date for an upcoming health promotion meeting at Forth Valley Health Board. Both the secretary and chair expressed an interest in attending, commitments permitting. The treasurer confirmed that she would be able to attend.

Also contained within the email was a possible location for further drop in evenings in the future. It is understood that more information regarding this will follow.

Training Day:

The Chair confirmed she had spoken with CTDU regarding the training day for management committees and circulated the programme for the day, agreed as Saturday, November 30th, to take place at the premises of CTDU in Falkirk.

Grants and Funding:

The Chair discussed the recent email regarding a company willing to undertake funding research on our behalf. After discussion it was agreed that flags would take up this offer under the option of only paying them should they be successful. Accordingly, it was agreed that flags would undertake the more local funding opportunities itself.

Contact with Local Authorities:

The secretary passed details of contacts within Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire Councils given by Chief Inspector Ian McNeish of Central Scotland Police at the last drop in evening. It is hoped that these contacts will be able to offer advice and help regarding prospective locations for future drop-in's etc.

Website:

The Chair and Treasurer spoke of concern regarding the current flags website and the impact that it portrayed. It was agreed after discussion that the next committee meeting will take place at the Webmaster’s home to allow for more productive discussion and designing to take place directly at his computer.

The importance of this was further agreed when it was discussed that the flags website can be easily found through various internet search engines.

Leaflet:

Both the Chair and Secretary had prepared some text for the new flags information leaflet. These were passed around and discussed. It was agreed that the leaflet prepared by the Secretary would b accepted with some minor layout modifications. Alan Varley agreed to carry out these modifications and prepare them for printing.

Consequently the possibility of headed notepaper and a compliments slip were discussed. Ideas for both were discussed and a layout for each agreed on.

AOB:

Eleanor Bow discussed recent contact with the Tollbooth as a location for social events. They will not charge us for the hire of the room but David Carson spoke of concerns regarding the small size and the hassle of having to remove tables and chairs. It was agreed that Eleanor Bow will speak further with the proprietors.

Contact had also been made with the Graham Hotel; it was believed that the function suite available was of a type not agreeable to social type events.

It was confirmed that a bus had been booked for the trip to Bennett’s and that so far, approximately 12 people had expressed interest.

Alan Varley agreed to speak with those at Park Street regarding any possibility they may have for any room on any night beyond the New Year.

The committee discussed the possibility of changing the usual night of the week, of merging with the Women’s Group that some of the Committee are also involved with and also of rotating the locations of drop in evenings around the Forth Valley area to facilitate issues such as funding as well as further attempting to attain the aims and objectives of flags.

Eleanor Bow discussed a pub in Edinburgh that organises a regular team quiz on Sunday nights. It was agreed that flags should organise a team to enter on the Sunday of AIDS day. An email will be circulated to all members for this. Ticket price agreed at £2.50

Alan Varley discussed an email he had sent to Durex regarding any possibility of Durex sponsoring flags, donating materials etc. A reply is awaited.

It was discussed that copies of the magazine "Gay Scotland" were mistakenly delivered to the home of a committee member rather than the PO Box address, containing an advert that was out of date regarding addresses etc. It was agreed that the secretary would deal with this as soon as the Chair passed on contact details of the magazine.

It was agreed that Eleanor Bow and David Carson would attend the next drop in evening.

Date of Next Meeting:

Wed November 27th; 7pm. Location to be the home of Alan Varley, committee member.
