Present:

Susan Meikle

John Mallon

Alan Varley

Eleanor Bow

David Carson

Lesley Ovens

Minutes of Previous Meeting:

These were accepted by all present.

Venue Issues:

The committee was informed by David Carson and Eleanor Bow that Bar Kudos was once again closed.

Alan Varley also spoke of recent dealings with those at Park St; they are currently intending to provide evening adult education classes from early 2003 and as such are no longer accepting any long term bookings.

It was discussed that flags is facing losing locations for both drop in evenings (after Dec 11) and also for pub-based social gatherings.

A list of possible alternative pubs/bars and meeting places was discussed by all present and Eleanor Bow and David Carson agreed to continue sourcing prospective locations and report in time to come.

It was agreed that in order to make flags fully available for any locations (for both drop in and social meetings), it may be necessary to revise the continual use of Thursday evenings.

The Secretary agreed to draft a letter in the near future that could be sent out asking for assistance from local publicans, Falkirk Council etc.

Advertising:

The Chair spoke of recent contact with the Falkirk Herald and the Falkirk Advertiser regarding advertising costs. The Herald quoted prices of £33 and £43; the Advertiser quoted £27 and £41.

The details of text to describe flags and its aims and objectives within public advertising documents were further discussed. It was agreed that Alan Varley and the Secretary would together create a completed flags information pamphlet and submit it to the committee.

It was agreed that the secretary should answer recent letters requesting information by informing that further correspondence will follow and giving details of upcoming drop in's etc.

Social Events:

The treasurer discussed the financial gain from the recent Halloween disco, the gain being £56.

It was also confirmed that good reports had been received by many of those who attended.

Regarding further events, the secretary agreed to send out an email to all to enquire as to what people would like to see organised for social events, both in terms of the Thursday evening meetings and for more substantial events.

Eleanor Bow raised the fact that Bennetts nightclub in Glasgow are holding an event to celebrate their 21st birthday on November 23rd and suggested organising a bus to take people to and from this event. Upon discussion, it was agreed that this was too soon to allow for proper organisation, promotion and ticket sales.

Alternatively, it was agreed that Eleanor Bow should enquire as to organising a bus to Bennetts on the night of Dec 6th; when Girls on Top will be available for the women, but it would allow transport for the men for a general night out in Bennetts. The Secretary agreed to email all to inform of this and that payment will be payable in full prior to the event.

AOCB:

The Secretary informed the committee that representatives of Central Scotland Police will attend the drop in evening of November 14th in order to speak to flags.

The Chair raised the possibility of gaining a seventh committee member to raise us to an odd number, to bring in some fresh and different input and also to allow some further sharing of the workload. The Secretary agreed that he was uneasy with the current even complement of the committee. Upon discussion, it was agreed that this issue should be noted but action be delayed until after the festive period, when hopefully issues such as those surrounding venues will be resolved.

The possibility of contacting other LGBT groups and sitting in on their meetings in order to gain knowledge about how they function and what they do in general was discussed.

The Chair agreed to contact John Hogg in order to gain his input regarding social events and the possibility of a monthly event at Camelon Labour Club.

Date of Next Meeting:

November 21st 2002.

Location to be the home of David Carson, committee member.
