Global English Service

The History

Language experts have long been fascinated by the development of English, Spanish, French and Portuguese which were carried across the world during the colonial era between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Distances, local factors and lengthy travelling times meant that colonies acquired linguistic independence long before the political variety. Occasionally groups of settlers originating from a particular region kept alive words and phrases which in Europe grew obsolete and disappeared, thus erecting monuments to their vanished forefathers in the everyday speech of nations thousands of miles away. More importantly, sometimes colonists found themselves ruling nations which themselves had long, eventful histories and highly developed cultures, but where communications were hindered because their peoples spoke different languages; in those circumstances the dictates of practicality ensured that rulers and ruled spoke one language. Then a mass of new accents and words flooded into the 'mother tongue' reflecting local customs, speech patterns, geography, food, religion and more. There might be other changes: occasionally words with perfectly innocent usages in Europe acquired meanings of gross indecency abroad. A minefield for the naive visiting European!

For three hundred years the linguistic children of Europe flourished. Like all healthy youngsters, they were confident, sometimes perhaps a little wilful, but they grew into strong and proud adults. Their parents might occasionally wave a pedantic finger and comment on accent, grammar or usage, but the young people rightly took no notice. Europe was far distant and irrelevant to the demands of day to day communication: literature, the media, business and commerce flourished in happy linguistic independence.

Then, four centuries after the languages of Europe first set sail from their homeland, those distances which had nurtured and preserved the independence of their descendants, were suddenly, in a matter of twenty years or so, swept away. The internet had arrived.

The Service

In the commercial world, style in communication is important: advertising copywriters have always known that. And nowadays the growing movement in Europe and the US towards outsourcing, taking advantage of skills and lower costs abroad, means that businessmen need to speak the same language. The European or US entrepreneur must be able to feel comfortable, to feel he is on the same wave length as his agent abroad because he is entrusting to him an important part of his business. In such a highly competitive environment, the outsourcing partner now finds he has to advertise his products and services to prospective European and US customers in their language, Global English, rather than his own. The outsourcing will then be seamless. The wheel has come full circle.

Business has truly become global, and therefore the websites of successful outsourcing partners are now expressed in Global English.

George Mouser Ltd (GML) offers this service to medium sized outsourcing partners abroad who recognise the need to replace the language of their locally constructed website with Global English. Initially we submit a sample rendering of the website language for client approval, then if agreed, liaise with his local webmaster, produce the new copy and do the proof reading once it has been uploaded onto his site. Any changes or additions thereafter can be swiftly incorporated so the website is always up to date and reflects the latest developments in the client's company. This service grew out of writing reports where clients demanded concise recommendations and conclusions following the completion of interim management projects.

GML deals only with medium sized clients, and so assures personal service. The cost of converting the language of your website to Global English will be one of the best investments you have ever made. Compared with the value of the business it will help generate, it is small.

The language of your website will shine out over the internet and attract hit after hit from prospective clients.
