Digital Photomontages 2000

The concern with identity and how one culture views another are among the presiding themes or leitmotifs of today’s postmodernist perspective. These digital images by Guillem Ramos-Poquí mark a move to what maybe fairly be described as “dreamscapes” and meditations on the relationships of past and present, “other”, and self. 

Evocative analogies again between one form or experience and another are used to cast the mind on our origins in other distant cultures and traditions, which carry their resonances forward into our present and future.

It has been said “the past is another country”, and maybe the present is no different to the unreceptive mind and sensibility. These images, with their subtle and sensuous gradations of colour and form, defamiliarise or make strange the identities around us we take for granted.

By conjuring links with past myths and alien histories they endow us with another eye, another vision – one that chimes with the values of our multicultural and cosmopolitan world.

La preocupación por la identidad, y sobre como una cultura opina de otra, es uno de los temas y expedientes de la perspectiva posmodernista actual. Estas imágenes digitales de Guillem Ramos-Poquí marcan un rumbo hacia lo que se podría describir como "paisajes de ensueño" y meditaciones sobre las relaciones entre el pasado y el presente, "el otro", y la identidad personal.
Utilizan analogías evocadoras entre diversas formas de experiencia para dirigir nuestra mente hacia sus orígenes en otras culturas y tradiciones del pasado en las que resuena tanto nuestro presente como nuestro futuro.
Se ha dicho que "el pasado es otro país", y una mente y sensibilidad poco receptiva no lo diferencian del presente. Estas imágenes, con su sutiles y sensuales graduaciones de color y de forma, desfamiliarizan, o hacen sentir extrañas, las identidades que nos rodean y que tomamos por descontado.
Al conjurar vínculos con antiguos mitos y extrañas historias nos otorgan otro punto de vista, otra visión - una en la que resuenan los valores del mundo multicultural y cosmopolita que nos rodea.
