This is when you could build a car that would road rally, stage rally and get you to work, the pub, club night and even allow you to "park" with the girlfriend!! (bit tight in a mini though)
This car had many guises including 998cc, 649 cam, pocketed block and big valve head by myself, weber 40 DCOE, LCB, S diff, brakes and tanks, super minifins and neg camber arms. The engine was swapped to a 1385cc which was very quick but I had used the wrong flat top pistons and not dished ones! So after the piston ring lands had disappeared I had to put dished ones init. A little slower but at least reliable. Due to a lack of funds it ended as a scrap yard 1275cc with a 544 cam, 'S' cylinder head and 45 DCOE on it and eventually was sold to someone who wanted to grass track it! You wouldn't believe that was Dulux house paint sprayed from a gun, would you? Great finish but took 3 days to dry!
