The area proposed for so many houses is the most attractive edge of the town, used throughout the year by local people because of the almost traffic-free Dane OCoys Road and many footpaths. It would be disgraceful to obliterate this pasture and farmland with houses.
Sandwiched between two of the ASRs is Hoggates Wood which is listed as an Ancient Woodland by English Nature (previously the Nature Conservancy Council) and classed as Greenbelt. Part of it is classed on the current local plan Map 14 as a site of ecological, geological and geomorphological importance or interest. What chance has it to survive, cut in half by a road and surrounded by housing? The plan to build so many houses in such a beautiful area of the town constitutes vandalism.
For an aerial view of the ASRs centered on Hoggates wood (marked), go to this Multimap link and then select the "Aerial" button at the top. As you move your cursor over the photo, you should see the map overlaid. (The Overlay feature may not function on some browsers).

If you would like to go and have a look for yourself at the area threatened by this development, why not print off a copy of the CAUSE Countryside Ramble.
