We would like to find out more about ancestors Stephen CHAPPELL (born ca 1798) and his son Edward CHAPPELL (born 1825) both of whom were Ship Caulkers and lived mainly in the Southwark area of London (i.e. Bermondsey and Rotherhithe in Surrey, and Deptford in Kent).

All our known branches of the family seem to have been fairly consistent in spelling the name "CHAPPELL" and two distantly related branches independently speak of the family having French origins and being pronounced "Shap-elle".

We do not have any early information about CHAPPELLs elsewhere, and the fact that the name is relatively common has made it impractical to gather data on other families sharing the same surname. However, we would be happy to exchange details regarding Southwark CHAPPELLs.
