We
have a great deal of information about the GLENDINING / GLENDENNING
farming family of Silverton and Tiverton in Devon (map and GenUKI page), from the marriage of Adham "a
Scotsman" in 1707 through to present day GLENDINING descendants.
As the name is rare in Devon, it seems likely that many of the
Devon GLENDINING / GLENDENNING families are related.
Paula
Carr has identified her ancestor Samuel GLENDINNING of Bristol
(bap 1819) as one of Adham's great-great grandsons - for more
information see the GLENDINNING pages of Paula's website. Paula has also been able
to discover a great deal of information about another of Adham's
gt-gt grandsons John GLENDINING who emigrated from Tiverton to
America, and subsequently Canada, circa 1850 - John's story was
previously only known from a few surviving letters sent home to
Devon. Another descendant is currently investigating the Birmingham
branch. We would like to follow the line back further and also
to find out what became of the other descendants.
Alex Glendinning has written an interesting page on his website about the history of the surname.
An outline GLENDINING family tree of Adham's known descendants is available here.
In 1814 William GLENDINING married Elizabeth CHAVE (born ca 1792) - for comprehensive details about Elizabeth's possible ancestry and relations, see the CHAVE Family History Website.
