July 2001
Hello, my name is Andrew Punshon. I'm 45 years old and currently live in Thatcham with
my wife Susan ( nee Deering ), children Sarah, who's nine this month and Jonathon who was four
last month. I work for Vodaphone Corporate in Credit Control
I started researching the 'family' name(s) in October 1984 and wrote to a great many
of you asking for information. Thanks to all of you who responded.
Over the intervening years I have amassed a great deal of information
regarding various branches of the family, through the Public Records Office,
the International Genealogical Index, Census Returns and information received.
It appears, from various sources, that the name originated in France,
possibly in Normandy in a region called Oise. A great many people have said that
it is a Huguenot name, although it does not appear in the registers of the
Huguenot Society and there is evidence of the name in this country before the Huguenots came.
I thought that the easiest way of updating all those that are interested would
probably be to produce a quarterly journal - giving details of my findings and
further research needs. It would also act as a notice board for 'family' members.
The cost of such a project had always put me off before and a book about the 'family'
history seemed to be a bit over the top and would be out of date almost immediately.
However, with the amount of information that I now possess and the fact that I'm feeling
a little cavalier with a cheque that I've just received, the first issue is available.
Some articles from this first edition are shown, click the newspaper icon.
The full edition is only available at this time, in print.
Copies of this issue will be distributed to all the Punshon, Puncheon,
Punchion and Punchons that I can locate free of charge, but future issues will
only be available on a subscription basis. The cost will be £8.00 for four issues (UK),
or £10 for four issues (overseas). This should cover printing and postage costs.
I hope you enjoy the first issue and look forward to your feedback and possibly
your subscription and articles for inclusion in future issues.
