Gill Hunter has been helping students and schools in Malawi since spending two years there in the mid-1980s. She taught with VSO at Umbwi Secondary School in Dedza.

When students started dropping out of school, she wrote to her friends in the U.K. asking for money for their school fees. The Hunter Trust was set up in 1996 to continue and expand this work.

Since taking early retirement in 1996, Gill visits Malawi two or three times each year, closely supervising the spending of the funds.

Robert and Adrianne Ker visited the country briefly in 1970. This experience made them responsive to Gill’s enthusiasm and supportive of her projects. They now visit Malawi regularly.
