MAY
Final Game
Bangor's season ends this Friday (25th May) at the Morfa, Conwy F.C when they take on Aston Villa. With Farrar Road now closed for the season City are grateful to Conwy for providing an alternative pitch. The game starts at 7.45 pm. If Bangor win or draw they can finish fourth instead of Wolverhampton.
Leeds promoted
Leeds United deservedly won the Northern Division title to take their place in the elite National Division next season. Oldham Curzon pushed Leeds all the way and it went down to United's last game of the season away to Wolves (May 7th). With Leeds needing to win to be certain of the title they romped home to a resounding 5-0 victory.
Super City lift cup! - Sunday 6th May
Bangor City won the FAW Women's Challenge Cup beating Newport County 3-0 at Newtown FC. After a tense first-half City scored three second half goals to lift the trophy for the second time in their history. Two goals from Ceryl Jones and one from Cheryl Foster were enough to see off a solid Newport challenge.
The Final Countdown - 1st May
Bangor have no league game this week so can concentrate fully on this Sunday's Welsh Cup Final. Finalists Newport have had a respectable mid-table finish in their first season in the National League, and have the edge on Bangor having beaten them twice in past encounters.
Bangor will now not have to play a league game on the following Monday which will be a relief to all concerned! However, they still have to play Oldham, Villa and Sheffield Wednesday at home, Newcastle and Garswood away before they can hang up their boots for the summer.

APRIL
Final Final Latest!!
Please ignore all the previous suggested dates for the final as the FAW have made their final decision (honest!). The final has rightfully been restored to a Sunday, May 6th. Newtown FC will host the final which will kick off at 2.30pm. Bangor City are likely to then have to play remaining league matches on the following Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday in order to complete the season!
Final Latest
Bangor will have no game this weekend (22nd April) as the Welsh Cup final will now be on either Friday 27th April or Friday 4th May. Apparently FAW Councillors could not make this Sunday. Venue to be confirmed although Newtown F.C is favourite.
Welsh Cup Final
The Welsh cup final has provisionally been set for Sunday 22nd April at Newtown F.C. This is subject to confirmation from the Football Association of Wales. After their stunning 4-0 defeat of cup holders Barry Town (Wednesday 18th April) Bangor will be hoping to maintain their good form when they face Newport in the final. Newport were promoted to the Axa FA Southern Premier League last season and Bangor will be keen to avenge defeats by Newport in the final in 1996, and in the semi-final in 1999.
Easter weekend fixture news
Bangor travelled to Birmingham on Good Friday and came away with a 2-2 draw. Having trailed 1-0 to a second half goal Bangor made it 2-1 before being stung by a late equaliser. The Bangor players were already on the bus for the Sunday fixture away to Garswood was called off. Presumably heavy rain on Saturday had made the pitch unplayable but Bangor will be disappointed with the late postponement on Sunday morning due to the cost implications. On the positive side Bangor will have more time to prepare for Wednesday's night Welsh cup semi-final against Barry Town.
Welsh Cup News
The delayed Barry Town Ladies v Bangor City Welsh Cup semi-final is to be played Wednesday, 18th April, kick off 7.45pm at Newtown FC.
Farrar Road Open!
The foot and mouth restrictions have been lifted on Farrar Road. Bangor can now play their remaining home games starting this Sunday (8th April) against Woverhampton Wanderers. The game will kick-off at 2 p.m.
MARCH
Bangor play Leeds in Ruthin, Sunday 25th March
Fixture confusion reigned this week as Bangor assumed they would be playing their Welsh cup semi-final against Barry but will actually play their scheduled league game against Leeds. With the ban on football at Farrar Road still continuing City struggled to find a suitable alternative ground to play their 'home' game on. Fortunately Ruthin Town Football Club came to rescue and the game will be played on the Memorial Fields, Ruthin 2 pm.
Welsh Cup Semi-final postponed - 18th March
The tie was called off on Saturday morning after heavy snowfall had left the pitch at Newtown unplayable with no chance of recovery by Sunday afternoon. Fixtures will now have to be rearranged although Bangor's home game against Leeds scheduled for 25th March was already in doubt due to the foot and mouth ban on matches in Bangor.
League blow
Bangor's slim hopes of mounting a challenged for the league were dashed last night (14th March) with a very disappointing defeat to Oldham.
Bangor will now turn attention to the Welsh Cup when they face Barry Town on Sunday in the semi-final at Newtown. In the other semi Cardiff face Newport at Port Talbot F.C.
Oldham evening fixture and foot & mouth latest
Bangor will play Oldham Curzon away this Wednesday (14th March) in a hastily arranged evening fixture. Oldham are currently top of the table but have league favourites Leeds United breathing down their necks.
Welsh Cup - the semi-final is still scheduled for this weekend and Newtown FC will host the game. The Newtown area is in a restricted foot and mouth area, and a new case has recently been discovered at nearby Welshpool so there is some doubt over the game. The Welsh FA are working hard to get the National Assembly for Wales and Ministry of Agriculture to take a more commonsense view on staging matches at Farrar Road, Bangor. Hopefully by pointing out that North Wales does not consist entirely of sheep fields and the fact Farrar Road is surrounded by houses, offices and shops (it being on the edge of the city centre) they will lift the ban.
Foot and Mouth Latest - Fixture Change
Although still banned from playing at Farrar Road the Girls can now resume away fixtures after the FAW, in consultation with the authorities, relaxed their ban on football. However, there has been some confusion over fixtures with the semi-final of the Welsh cup being put back a week. Bangor will play Huddersfield away in the league this Sunday (11th March), and the semi-final will be the following week (18th March) probably at Newtown F.C.
Bangor banned from playing by Welsh FA
Due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease on Anglesey the Welsh and North Wales Coast FA's have suspended Bangor City Girls from playing any home or away matches for the next seven days.
Sunday 11th March will now see the Welsh FA Cup semi-final against Barry instead of the away league game to Huddersfield. However, as the game will have to be played at a neutral venue, and with the foot and mouth outbreak spreading this fixture is already in doubt.
FEBRUARY
Barry test in Welsh Cup
The draw for the Welsh cup semi-finals has paired last seasons finalists together with Bangor taking on Barry Town. The other tie will see Newport play Cardiff in an all Southern division meeting. The ties will be played on Sunday 18th March.
Barlow injury setback
Louise Barlow will be out for up to three weeks after having minor knee surgery. The Bangor defender will miss the vital league matches against Leeds and Oldham, and will be a doubt for the Welsh cup semi-final.
Manning signs for Liverpool
Gail Manning who quit Bangor before Christmas has signed for Liverpool Ladies. The transfer was completed just before the deadline and will see Manning team-up with another ex-Bangor striker Jade Thomas. Bangor City wish Gail well with her new club.
Welsh Cup campaign begins
Sunday 18th February will see City travel to Flintshire to take on Broughton in the Welsh Cup quarterfinal. Broughton have booked three pitches to ensure the tie goes ahead as planned and Bangor will be wary of repeating last seasons poor performance against Broughton when they stuttered to a 7-4 victory.
Game v Ilkeston postponed
Bangor's away fixture on the 11th February has been postponed due to Ilkeston's FA Cup commitments. With the rest of the league programme going ahead as scheduled there was no possibility of arranging an alternative fixture.
JANUARY
Sam says goodbye to Bangor
Sam Blackmore has announced she is quitting Bangor City after a season and a half with the club. The former Rhyl Ladies player has had a disrupted season due to injuries and recently starting a new job. Sam said 'I just found the commitment too much, especially the time and expense of travelling from Denbigh.'
Vital League Clash
Bangor will face Oldham away on the 21st January in place of their scheduled tie against Wolverhampton (cancelled due to Midlands County Cup). The hastily arranged game is a crucial clash against the league leaders which Bangor must not lose to maintain any chance of promotion. The squad may be boosted by the return of captain Bev Dignam.
Welsh Cup Draw
Barry v Saundersfoot
Broughton / Corwen v Bangor
Newport v Cogan Coronation
UWIC v Cardiff
Ties to be played 18th February 2001. Bangor's home game with Sheffield Wednesday will have to be rescheduled. Bangor attempted to get Sheffield to play in Bangor on the 14th January but were unsuccessful and will now have no game. City's original opponents Birmingham have FA Cup commitments.
Bangor players missing in action...
City will be without the services of four players this month who have gone to tour Australia with the Welsh Colleges. Cheryl Foster, Louise Barlow, Sam Blackmore and Laura Pritchard flew out on New Year's Eve to play a series of matches in New South Wales. Captain Bev Dignam has yet to recover from her broken collarbone, and Alwen Williams is struggling with a persistent shin problem. Having lost the services of Jo Roberts and Gail Manning before Christmas Bangor find themselves with a depleted squad. One piece of good news is the return to fitness of flying winger Manon Lloyd Williams who has now fully recovered from ankle ligament damage.
