JUNE 2002
City entered in UEFA Women's Cup
The FAW have entered Welsh cup winners Bangor
in the UEFA Women's Cup. UEFA say it is likely that Bangor would have to
compete in the qualifying rounds due to the low ranking that Wales has in
European football. Further details to follow.
MAY 2002
Bangor in Europe?
The Football Association
of Wales have agreed to enter Bangor City into UEFA Women's cup. As Welsh
cup winners Bangor should be eligible for the competition although the
Welsh FA did not enter the team last year.
End of season TV preview
Bangor players will get
a chance to preview their TV documentary on Friday 31st May with the event
doubling as an end of season celebration. The documentary crew have followed
the team for the whole season covering all the ups and downs! The programmes
will be shown in June on S4C.
Ilkeston
The long awaited game
against Ilkeston will take place this coming Saturday evening (May 18th)
at a time to be announced. City will be without several key players due
to Wales playing Scotland that weekend and are awaiting news on keeper
Nicki Davies who was injured in the Welsh cup final.
Ilkeston / Welsh Cup News
Ilkeston have succeeded
in getting the FA to postpone Sunday's match (5th May) against Bangor
as they were unable to find a pitch. Bangor will now have to play the
game on May 19th despite missing four International players.
The FAW have announced
the Welsh Cup final between Bangor and Newport will be played at Caersws
12th May 2.00pm.

APRIL 2002
Ilkeston and Bangor
clash over fixture
Bangor's
last league fixture scheduled to take place away to Ilkeston this Sunday
(5th May) is in serious doubt due to the home team being unable to find
a pitch. Bangor have appealed to the FA to get the game played so as not
to upset preparations for the Welsh Cup final on the 12th May. Ilkeston
had generously offered to play on Saturday 11th May but this was turned
down for obvious reasons! Sunday 19th May would also cause problems for
Bangor as the Welsh senior team will be playing and four Bangor players,
including goalkeeper Nicky Davies have been selected by Wales. Bangor's
home pitch at Farrar Road is available to host the fixture.
Welsh FA award semi-final
tie to Bangor
Bangor will face Newport County Ladies in
the 2002 Welsh Cup final after Barry failed to field a team in the semi-final
scheduled of 10th April. The Welsh FA were left with no option but to
award the tie to Bangor and to consider disciplinary action against Barry.
The final will now be played on 12th May allowing Bangor to finish their
remaining League games. The venue has yet to be announced.
Barry call off crucial cup-tie due to lack
of players
Just over twenty-four hours before the Welsh
Cup semi-final was due to take place at Newtown FC Barry have pulled out
of the tie as they could only field 'five players', less than the required
seven to enable the game to take place. The original tie (24th March)
was unexpectedly postponed by a water-logged pitch at Llanidloes FC. Barry
chose the rearranged date of Wednesday 10th April having wanted to keep
Sunday dates free for League matches. It was known that Barry only had
ten players available for the original date and have struggled to field
full-squads in the Premier League this season.
Barry are focusing on their campaign to maintain their National Division
status and the Welsh Cup would not be a priority at the moment. The final
is due to be played on 5th May.
Welsh Cup - Venue Change
The semi final against Barry Town will now be
played at Newtown FC and not Llanidloes FC on Wednesday 10th April, kick-off
8.00 pm. Newport await the winners of the tie. Bangor will be without Laura
Pritchard and possibly Donna Edwards who picked up an injury in the defeat
to Garswood.
MARCH 2002
International call-ups
/ Fixtures / CUT 23
Bangor's gloomy season
is once again illuminated by a number of Welsh call-ups to the Senior
and U19 squads. The Senior team take on Belgium at La Louviere on 24th
March and Ceryl Jones, Cheryl Foster and Tania Jones have all been selected
having recently represented Wales in the Algarve Cup. Keeper Nicky Davies
drops down from the Senior squad to the U19's who take on Portugal on
Saturday 23rd March at Caldhas da Rainha. She is joined by team mates
Laura Pritchard, Kelly Davies, Katie Williams and Aisla Orlik.
Thanks to CUT 23 and
the other bands that played in a Bangor City Girls benefit gig last Friday
(15th March) at the Social Club.
It is hoped that information
about Bangor's remaining fixtures will be available soon.
Welsh Cup
For the second season
running Bangor have been drawn against Welsh Cup favourites Barry Town at
the semi-final stage. The game will take place on Sunday 17th March at a
neutral venue yet to be determined. The other tie will see Newport County
take on Haverfordwest.

Benefit gig by CUT 23
Details have been confirmed
for the Bangor City Girls benefit gig on Friday, March 15 Bangor City Social
Club. Admission will be £4 on the night with concessions for students and
unwaged. The admission fee will also include entry into a free raffle with
prizes including CDs, limited edition framed prints and various other delights.
For a taster of the great live music on offer on the night from CUT 23,
Skinflick and Dammerung, visit www.mp3.com and type in the appropriate band's
name in the search window. Although CUT 23 and Skinflick have dominated
the Industrial music scene in Wales over the last 10 years, and both acts
are Bangor-based, it will be the first time they have actually appeared
together on the same bill, so expect some fireworks. (Courtesy of www.cut23.com).
Algarve Cup forces postponement of City
game
Ceryl Jones, Tania
Jones and Cheryl Foster will join up with Wales on Wednesday 1st March
to take part in the Algarve Cup. Wales will face Portugal, Scotland and
Canada in the week long competition. Bangor's scheduled game against Manchester
City (3rd Sunday) has been postponed.
Bourner worry / player update
Bev Bourner is waiting
to hear whether she faces surgery after complications from the fractured
collarbone she suffered in the recent game against Liverpool. Also in
hospital last week was Susie Cunningham who tore ankle ligaments in training
and she will also miss the remainder of the season. Donna Edwards (ribs)
and Alwen Williams (shin) are confident of resuming training next week.
City look to have
lost the services of defender Karen Williams. The UEFA qualified coach
is rumoured to be joining Pentraeth FC and Bangor will miss her defensive
experience.
Second unlucky break for Bourner
Bangor defender Bev
Bourner, who last season broke her left collarbone, is likely to miss
the rest of the season after fracturing her right collarbone against Liverpool
on Sunday (17th Feb). Fellow defender Elin Haf Jones also had to be helped
from the pitch suffering with ankle ligament damage although it is hoped
she will be fit to play in a couple of weeks.
City are unsure who
their opponents will be this Sunday as Coventry are due to play in a County
Cup competition. If City do play they will be boosted by the return of
Louise Barlow who has finally finished a three-match suspension and Kelly
Davies who has returned from holiday. Alwen William who failed a late
fitness test before the Liverpool game is confident of being available
for selection.
JANUARY 2002
Mixed news for City on player front
City midfielder Siwan
Elenid embarks on a three month trip to Australia this Sunday (20th Jan)
and will miss the rest of the season. The loss of the experienced midfielder
is countered by the return of Tania Jones who came through the second-half
against Charlton Athletic unscathed. Jones had been out of action since
the end of last and has been greatly missed by City. Broken leg victim
Manon Lloyd Williams has begun her rehabilitation in the gym and is on
course to start playing again next season.
Team news for Charlton clash
Bangor face Charlton on Sunday 6th January at
Bromley F.C in the 4th round of the AXA FA Womens Cup. Definitely missing
for Bangor will be Louise Barlow who starts a three match ban after her
sending off against Manchester City and broken leg victim Manon Lloyd Williams.
Welsh midfielder Tania Jones will be pushing for a start having missed the
first half of the season with a knee injury.
