Bangor battered by ten goal Addicks

Charlton Athletic 10 Bangor City 1, Sunday 13th October 2003

Bangor arrived very late for this stern test against the England's best team due to an accident on the M25 and the Welsh side probably wished the bus had never made it! A respectable first half saw Bangor keep their shape well and make it difficult for Charlton although the home side were still able to score three times through a Heatherson hat-trick. Ellen Page, making her full Bangor debut, pulled off some great saves to deny the Charlton forwards more goals.

The second-half saw a spectacular collapse by the visitors with the Bangor defence giving Charlton the freedom of the park. Goals by Broadhurst (2), Williams, Hunn, Smith (2) and Heatherson took Charlton's tally to double figures. The one bright spot for Bangor was a brilliant individual goal from 17 year old Elen King when she outpaced the defenders from inside her own half to blast the ball past Cope.

Bangor 4-5-1 Ellen Page, Alwen Williams, Sam Bell (Cerys Gadd) Gill Smith, Tania Jones, Ceryl Jones, Siwan Elenid, Kim Broadbent, Kirsty Roberts (Elain Owen) (Danni Keegan), Elen King, Sophie Craig.

First win of season for City

Barnet 2 Bangor City 4 (AET), Sunday 14th September 2003

Bangor made the long trek down to the Capital to take on Southern Division Barnet in the first round of the League Cup. Bangor dominated the first-half with their better passing football but Tania Jones and Ailsa Orlik missed great chances to convert pressure into goals. The away team were disappointed to end the half without anything to show for a good first half display.

Barnet improved in the second-half and began to pass the ball around well however it was Bangor who opened the scoring through Ceryl Jones on 52 minutes. Only two minutes later Jones added a second when she took advantage of a poor defensive wall to score from a free-kick. City appeared to have the game won but Barnet got back into the game from a dubious penalty award. Keeper Davies saved the spot kick well but Stutchfield followed up her effort to net the rebound. Bangor were denied a third when Alwen Williams' shot was parried by Barnet keeper Hughes into her net but the officials failed to award the goal. With only five minutes remaining the game went into extra time when Joslind took advantage of a mistake by Davies to bring the sides level.

Bangor looked to have missed their chance but with legs tiring and the Barnet keeper hampered by injury the game was wrapped up by Orlik. A neat passing move saw her net her first on 101 minutes and a minute later her pace put her clear of the defence and she finished neatly passed the keeper. The hot conditions eventually took there toll on both teams with the closing minutes played at walking pace.

Bangor 4-4-2 Nicky Davies, Alwen Williams, Gill Smith, Tania Jones, Ceryl Jones, Katie Williams, Siwan Elenid, Kim Broadbent, Kirsty Roberts, Elen King (Sophie Craig), Ailsa Orlik (Danni Keegan).
