Liverpool 4 Bangor
City 0, Wednesday 15th October 2003
Bangor
had to face a Liverpool team that included four ex-Bangor players who
left the club since the start of the season. Bangor started the better
team and Orlik should have opened the scoring when she outpaced the home
defence only to shoot against the cross bar. Liverpool were clearly surprised
by the quality of the Bangor play and their frustration showed with a
series of fouls with ex-Bangor player Barlow lucky to not to be cautioned.
However, all Bangor's hard work was undone when Liverpool won a corner
that was bundled into the net by Bangor's Tania Jones. Confidence ebbed
away from the young Bangor side and Liverpool began to get on top. The
home side scored a second when Foster was given a free run on goal and
she made no mistake when one on one with the keeper.
Liverpool dominated
the second-half and scored two more through former Bangor players Jade
Thomas and Cheryl Foster. Some excellent saves from Ellen Page kept the
score down whilst Nicky Davies was rarely threatened at the other end.
Bangor 4-4-2 Ellen
Page, Alwen Williams, Sam Bell, Gill Smith, Tania Jones, Katie Williams,
Siwan Elenid, Kim Broadbent, Elen King , Ailsa Orlik, Sophie Craig (Danni
Keegan).

Bangor
played in their usual hard working fashion but found it hard going against
the league favourites. Ceryl Jones tested the Liverpool keeper from distance
and Ailsa Orlik was lively up front but it was Liverpool who posed a greater
attacking threat especially down the wings. The visitors were also a threat
from set-pieces and it was from a free-kick that Hastie opened the scoring
with a header.
Bangor looked to get
back into the game in the second half but that hope was extinguished on
50 minutes when Foster took advantage of poor defending to score. Bangor
switched to 3-5-2 in search of a goal but left themselves vulnerable to
Liverpool attacks, and it was no surprise when Thomas made it three to
Liverpool after a cross by Hart with Bangor defenders AWOL.
Bangor keeper Nicky
Davies played her last game before signing for Liverpool. City hope to
find a replacement keeper before their next scheduled league game against
Sunderland.
Bangor 4-4-2/ 3-5-2
Nicky Davies, Alwen Williams, Gill Smith, Tania Jones, Ceryl Jones, Katie
Williams, Siwan Elenid, Kim Broadbent, Kirsty Roberts (Danni Keegan),
Elen King , Ailsa Orlik (Sophie Craig) .
