Year ends on sour note...

Sheff Wed 2 Bangor City 1 , Sunday 14th December 2003

Bangor did not deserve to come away with nothing after a good display against Wednesday at Staveley. The weather was a factor in the game but having lost the toss City coped well playing against a strong wind in the first half. However, Wednesday took the lead in unfortunate circumstances when Booker latched onto a fumble by Bangor keeper Hewitt but Bangor players were furious about events that led to the goal. Elen King had gone down injured on the half-way line but play continued with Wednesday attacking until Bangor cleared the ball back up the pitch. The visitors expected the ball to be put out of play but Wednesday took advantage of the situation to launch another attack that led to the goal. Bangor's day got worse when on the stroke of half-time an attempted cross sailed into the back of the net.

City picked themselves up for the second half and took advantage of the conditions. They were rewarded when Susie Cunningham hit a tremendous shot into the top corner to put Bangor back in the game. The visitors put the home team under pressure but could not find the equaliser. At the other end Wednesday could have made the game safe after several good breaks but their finishing let them down.

Bangor 4-5-1, 3-5-2 Natalie Hewitt, Gill Smith, Katie Williams, Cerys Gadd (Sophie Craig), Kim Broadbent, Alwen Williams, Mel Prince, Siwan Elenid, Kirsty Roberts (Danni Keegan), Elen King, Susie Cunningham.
