Year ends on sour
note...
Sheff Wed 2 Bangor
City 1 , Sunday 14th December 2003
Bangor did not deserve
to come away with nothing after a good display against Wednesday at Staveley.
The weather was a factor in the game but having lost the toss City coped
well playing against a strong wind in the first half. However, Wednesday
took the lead in unfortunate circumstances when Booker latched onto a
fumble by Bangor keeper Hewitt but Bangor players were furious about events
that led to the goal. Elen King had gone down injured on the half-way
line but play continued with Wednesday attacking until Bangor cleared
the ball back up the pitch. The visitors expected the ball to be put out
of play but Wednesday took advantage of the situation to launch another
attack that led to the goal. Bangor's day got worse when on the stroke
of half-time an attempted cross sailed into the back of the net.
City picked themselves
up for the second half and took advantage of the conditions. They were
rewarded when Susie Cunningham hit a tremendous shot into the top corner
to put Bangor back in the game. The visitors put the home team under pressure
but could not find the equaliser. At the other end Wednesday could have
made the game safe after several good breaks but their finishing let them
down.

Bangor City 1 Sheff
Wed 2 , Sunday 7th September 2003
Bangor came within
a whisker of claiming their first points of the season but were denied
by a late winner by the Owls. Wednesday opened the scoring on 20 minutes
after Bangor defender Smith misjudged a goal kick allowing Humprheys to
in to lob the keeper. The visitors nearly made it two but were denied
by the cross bar and a goal line clearance. Bangor eventually got back
into the game and were rewarded on 40 minutes when King scored her first
of the season.
There was little to
choose between the two sides in the second half with few clear cut chances
being created. On 80 minutes Orlik had a great chance to put Bangor in
front but blazed the ball wide with the goal at her mercy. The miss was
to prove costly when with five minutes remaining Bangor defender Katie
Williams headed into her own net after keeper Davies had parried a cross
away.
