Late goal condemns City to
yet another draw
Bangor City 1 Aston Villa
1- Axa FA Premier League Sunday 2nd December 2001
Bangor made it seven
draws out of twelve games as they conceded an equaliser five minutes from
time. The home side had the better of the first half and had several good
chances. Cheryl Foster had a shot cleared off the line and Louise Barlow
hit the bar before Ceryl Jones scored from the edge of the box.
Whilst Bangor had
been the better team in the first half Villa came out strongly in the
second. City lost their shape and rarely strung more than two passes together.
The visitors hit the bar and went close on several occasions before Nathanya
Hicks scored the equaliser. Bangor were left to rue not taking their chances
to make the game safe in the first forty-five minutes but ultimately Villa
deserved their point.
Bangor team (4-5-1):
Nicky Davies, Karen Williams, Rebecca Owen, Bev Bourner, Alwen Williams,
Siwan Elenid, Louise Barlow, Gill Smith, Katie Williams, Cheryl Foster,
Ceryl Jones.
Ten-goal thriller at Villa
Aston Villa 5 Bangor City
5 - Axa FA Premier League Sunday 19th August 2001
The points were shared
after a remarkable first game of the season, which saw the lead change
hands four times. Ceryl Jones got City off to a great start when she lobbed
the keeper after being put through by Foster. Jones should have then made
it two but blasted her shot at the keeper when clear on goal. Villa then
hit back with three goals from Masters, Robinson and O'Donnell after some
shaky defending by Bangor. Foster should have reduced the deficit but
she put the ball wide after a one-on-one situation with the home goalkeeper.
She made amends though when she crossed for Jones to get her second leaving
it 3-2 to Villa at half time.
City piled on the
pressure at the start of the second period and scored two quick goals
to go 4-3 up. A cross cum short by Foster was inadvertently knocked into
the net by Villa defender Day, and shortly afterwards Siwan Elenid blasted
in a close range volley. Having retaken the lead Bangor looked to consolidate
but poor defending allowed Masters twice two get in the box unchallenged
to score a well-taken hat-trick. Both teams had further good chances but
it was Bangor who made one count. With only minutes left Foster pounced
in the six-yard box to give City a deserved equaliser after a breath taking
game.
Bangor team (3-5-2):
Nicky Davies, Karen Williams (Smith), Bev Dignam, Laura Pritchard, Siwan
Elenid, Louise Barlow, Kelly Davies (Katie Williams), Iona Willaims (Orlik),
Manon Williams, Cheryl Foster, Ceryl Jones.
