City crash to Charlton

Charlton Athletic 3 Bangor City 0 - Axa FA Cup Sunday 13th January 2002

Bangor were comprehensively outplayed and beaten by Charlton at Bromley F.C. The home side were on top from the start and Bangor survived several early scares. However, with 14 minutes gone Abbott outpaced the Bangor defence and her cross was met at the far post by Alexa Hunn to volley the ball into the roof of the net. It was no surprise when the Addicks made it two after Lorton flicked the ball on for Betts to score. Bangor reorganised their defence to try to cope with Abbott and Lorton who were causing them all sorts of problems.

Bangor improved in the second half although rarely threatened Pauline Cope in the Charlton goal. The home team threatened constantly especially down the left and only wasteful finishing and good keeping by Davies kept the score down. With twenty minutes left Smith was harshly adjudged to have handled and from the resulting free-kick Fara Williams scored an excellent goal third for Charlton. Bangor then had their best spell that saw a header cleared off the line from a corner but they were always second best to a good Charlton team.

Bangor team (4-4-2): Nicky Davies, Gill Smith, Bev Bourner, Rebecca Owen, Katie Williams, Siwan Elenid, Laura Pritchard (Cheryl Foster), Kelly Davies, Alwen Williams, Ceryl Jones (Donna Edwards), Sam Blackmore (Tania Jones).
