City frustration continues

Bangor City 1 Garswood 2 - Axa FA Premier League Sunday 7th April 2002

Bangor got off to a bright start on a sunny day at Farrar Road and were unlucky not to score after a Barlow header was cleared off the line. The home team continued to press but the visitors always looked capable of breaching the Bangor defence. Garswood opened the scoring from a McDonald header that Tania Jones will have been disappointed not to clear off the line. Barlow and Smith came close to equalising for Bangor but their shots flew narrowly wide. Garswood then claimed a second when a Bell shot deflected off Donna Edwards to leave the home side with an uphill struggle.

City increased their efforts after the break but the Garswood defence proved very solid. Foster looked to have pulled one back but her lob came back off the post. With fifteen minutes left City finally made a breakthrough after a Garswood defended handled in the box under pressure from Smith. Kelly Davies stepped up to score from the spot and make it a frantic finish to the match. With Bangor pushing forward Garswood had good opportunities but neither side took their remaining chances as Bangor's poor league form continues.

Bangor team (4-4-2): Nicky Davies, Laura Pritchard (Ailsa Orlik), Donna Edwards, Alwen Williams, Louise Barlow, Tania Jones, Kelly Davies, Gill Smith, Iona Williams (Ellen King), Cheryl Foster, Ceryl Jones.

Last gasp equaliser robs Bangor

Garswood 2 Bangor City 2 - Axa FA Premier League Sunday 30th September 2001

Bangor were left to rue a host of missed chances as a battling Garswood side snatched a last minute equaliser. City had got off to a shaky start and let in Andi Bell to score the first for Garswood. Bangor then got the break they needed when Rachel Parker was adjudged to have fouled Bangor's Katie Williams in the box. Ceryl Jones made no mistake from the penalty and the teams went in level at half-time.

City were well on top in the second-half and should have made more of their chances. They eventually went ahead when a long clearance from the defence allowed Foster to cross for Ceryl Jones to get her second. Bangor were very unlucky not to win another penalty when Foster was brought down in the box. With less than a minute remaining a battling Garswood got an equaliser as Andi Bell showed how to take a chance. Bangor's Gill Smith said 'I'm absolutely gutted. This is the second time this season we have conceded with only seconds left on the clock. Garswood are not the type of team to give up and we really need to start finishing teams off, instead of being third in the league we are languishing in seventh''.

Bangor team (3-5-2): Nicky Davies, Gill Smith, Bev Dignam, Rebecca Owen, Louise Barlow (Siwan Elenid), Cheryl Foster (Ellen King), Kelly Davies, Iona Williams, Manon Williams, Ceryl Jones, Sam Blackmore (Katie Williams).
