City end season with
win
Ilkeston Town 0 Bangor City
2- Axa FA Premier League Saturday 18th May 2002
With several players
missing due to Welsh duty Bangor did well to take three points in their
final league game. On an interesting sports centre pitch Ilkeston enjoyed
the better of the first half and should have turned possession into the
goals. With the help of the woodwork and poor finishing the teams were
level at half-time.
Bangor were much improved
in the second-half putting in a robust display. They were rewarded when
an Owen pass put in Edwards to finish well. Ilkeston were repelled by
good defending and the game was made safe for Bangor when Orlik grabbed
a second two minutes from time.
Bangor team (4-4-2):
Nicky Davies, Gill Smith, Laura Pritchard, Elain Owen, Louise Barlow,
Alwen Williams, Katie Williams, Iona Williams, Kelly Davies, Ellen King
(Orlik), Donna Edwards.
Poor performance
and poor finish for City
Bangor City 2 Ilkeston Town
2 - Axa FA Premier League Sunday 18th November 2001
For the third time
this season Bangor conceded a late equaliser as they demonstrated their
unwillingness to learn from past mistakes. They were though fortunate
to have come so close to claiming all three points after another disappointing
performance. Ilkeston dominated the first half and had several good chances
to take the lead. Bangor had trouble passing to teammates and allowed
the visitors to dictate the play.
There were some harsh
words at the interval but it this only made a perceptible difference to
the level of performance. Desperate times called for desperate measures
and Cheryl Foster came on up-front despite not being ready to return from
knee surgery. Surprisingly it was Foster who broke the deadlock as she
took advantage of uncertain defending to slot the ball home. Ilkeston
soon equalised as Spanner was allowed a free run on goal to finish well.
Bangor retook the lead as Orlik scrambled the ball home with 15 minutes
left. City should have run the clock down but allowed Ilkeston one last
attack that proved very costly. A Bangor goal kick went unchallenged to
the Ilkeston midfield and a static defence let in Plinston to hit a tremendous
shot to level the game for Town. The drama continued after the game when
angry Ilkeston officials and players confronted the referee unhappy with
his performance and for having the temerity to speak Welsh. Ilkeston also
complained about the vocal Bangor crowd after some heated exchanges between
fans and the Ilkeston bench
Bangor team (3-5-2):
Nicky Davies, Gill Smith, Bev Dignam, Alwen Williams, Louise Barlow, Katie
Williams (Cheryl Foster), Siwan Elenid, Iona Williams (Karen Williams),
Kelly Davies, Ceryl Jones, Ellen King (Aisla Orlik).
