First win for Bangor
Bangor City 5 North Notts
1 - Axa FA Premier League Sunday 9th September 2001
Ceryl Jones made a
welcome return from injury and there was a surprise selection in goal
as Tania Jones came in for her first game of the season. The Welsh midfielder
had not played since the end of last season after cartilage / ligament
damage to her knee that is still awaiting specialist treatment. City put
their selection problems behind them in the first five minutes when Barlow
crossed to Ceryl Jones to score the opener. Minutes later Barlow suffered
a hamstring injury and Cheryl Foster had to be pressed into action despite
not having fully recovered from an ankle injury. Ceryl Jones added a further
two goals before the break to give City a well deserved lead at half-time.
Straight after the
break Bangor made it four with Jones netting her fourth of the game. City
had dominated the match but the woodwork and bad finishing denied them
the goals they deserved. North Notts scored a consolation goal from Nicki
Smith but Bangor had the last word when Cheryl Foster made it five just
before the final whistle. City were pleased to gain their first win of
the season with the added bonus of impressive home debuts by Ellen King
and Elin Jones.
Bangor team (4-4-2):
Tania Jones, Gill Smith, Bev Dignam, Laura Pritchard (Elin Jones), Elain
Owen, Siwan Elenid, Karen Williams (Ellen King), Louise Barlow (Cheryl
Foster), Iona Williams, Manon Williams, Ceryl Jones.
