Last gasp equaliser denies Bangor

Bangor City 1 Oldham Curzon 1- Axa FA Premier League Sunday 26th August 2001

Bangor were denied their first win of the season with Oldham scoring a last minute equaliser. City were the better team in the first half and should have killed off the visitors before the break. Cheryl Foster rounded the keeper to give Bangor a deserved lead but City failed to capitalise on some great chances to make it two. Ceryl Jones had a shot cleared off the line with the goalie beaten, and Foster put one just past the post.

Oldham came out a different side in the second-half and piled on the pressure. Dean hit the crossbar from a corner and the woodwork also denied her from a free-kick. Oldham were then awarded a penalty when Smith handled a shot in the six-yard box but Gaynon blasted the spot-kick against the bar. Minutes later Smith headed the ball off the line after an Oldham corner. With the clock running down it looked like Bangor had hung on for all three points but Joanne Ricks scored a scrappy equaliser with the ball agonisingly bobbling over the line as the Bangor players looked on.

Bangor team (3-5-2): Nicky Davies, Karen Williams, Gill Smith, Laura Pritchard, Siwan Elenid, Louise Barlow, Kelly Davies, Iona Willaims, Manon Williams, Cheryl Foster, Ceryl Jones (Aisla Orlik).

Points shared again in Oldham stalemate

Oldham Curzon 0 Bangor City 0 - Axa FA Premier League Sunday 2nd September 2001

Bangor travelled to Ashton without the services of goalkeeper Nicky Davies or forward Ceryl Jones. Diminutive teenager Katie Williams stepped in between the sticks and Siwan Elenid moved up front to partner Cheryl Foster. Oldham dominated possession in the first-half although rarely converted that pressure into goal scoring opportunities. Their closest chance came when Kelly Dean hit the crossbar from a corner kick with Iona Williams missing Bangor's best chance after she shot over the bar. City had to re-organise early in the game when Cheryl Foster was carried off with ankle ligament damage.

Bangor switched to a 4-4-2 formation after the break and they succeeded in stemming the Oldham attacks. City had more chances in the second-half but lacked a killer touch whilst Oldham became increasingly frustrated with their inability to break down the stubborn Welsh side. Dean had a shot saved by Williams and the young keeper managed to parry the follow up shot on the bar. The introduction of Ellen King for her Bangor debut gave Bangor pace down both wings which troubled Oldham but could not prevent the game ending in stalemate.
